Debunking the Maxi Taxi myths

The propensity for people to walk right past a maxi taxi who is first on a rank so that they can get into a regular taxi amazes me. I'm guessing they do this for a number of misinformed reasons. Let me explode those myths.

Rod...Point No.1. If there were five or more passengers, they would not fit in a regular cab, so would need to hire 2 cabs. So 1 maxi would still be cheaper than 2 regular cabs wouldn't it?

Good point. I wrote this in somewhat of a hurry. Best way to explain it is say on a 10k trip. Figures based on daytime rate.

1 car = $5 flagfall and $2 per k. = $25.
2 cars = $5 flagfall and $2 per k. X2 = $50
1 maxi for 5. $7.50 flagfall and $3 per k = $37.50
1 maxi for 8 (equiv of 2 full cars) $7.50 flagfall and $3.80 per k = $45.50
