Friday's impeachment hearing, and some excellent news!

I appreciated the testimony Friday by Amb. Yovanovitch -- whose tenure heading our Kiev embassy was summarily ended last May by Trumpsky. It is clear that Rudy Giuliani got rid of her so that he could more safely intimidate new Ukraine president Zellinsky ( Read more... )

I feel like this is all a forgone conclusion. He will be impeached, then it will go to the Senate and the be shot down. The issue is it will divide the nation even more, and I fear by 2020, the damage will be too much to repair.

Thanks, Vikkie -- yes, that's certainly the likely outcome. But, having the Nixon impeachment story in mind, one is tempted to hope public opinion simply CHANGES as the case against him evolves!

The "smoking gun"...

The Holmes episode on Friday, for instance -- no one on the Committee knew Trumpsky had been so outspoken with HIS guy, Sondlund, until the hearings THEMSELVES prompted Holmes to come forward.

Not too different from disclosure IN the Watergate hearings of the WH tape recordings of Nixon. That changed public opinion drastically!

And the Supreme Court verdict that Nixon HAD to give the tapes to the Committee -- well, an unlikely outcome.

(Trump would not have complied, natch, but now the present story about his "collusion" IS public -- and he cannot credibly deny it! And the public may well reject his further desperate efforts. Who knows, maybe Giuliani or Sondland will testify meaningfully...)

The big difference if that Nixon never got to the Impeachment, and that it was also the Republicans who strongly advised him to step down for his actions. Trump's Republican allies are not doing that, they are enabling him, so that is the biggest difference.

Here's a promising bit of testimony! Maybe this will force Bolton to testify -- or inspire the courts to immediately strike down Trump's illegal order that "his" people are NOT subject to subpoenas.

Which the court did just yesterday -- BUT the only problem is that the verdict will be "stayed" -- and the whole process is taking so goddamned much TIME!
