I completely agree with you about his speech. He is one of many people working towards a fairer and more enlightened future, but I think that sometimes a person manages to capture the tenor of the moment, and he does that beautifully. Mind you, the dumbass squad of commentators that you always find in the comments section of online newspaper reports were at it again. My favourite one was that allowing same-sex marriage would "Turn the USA into a Banana Republic". I've been giving that one some thought, and I still can't work out what the Hell they were talking about!
