Slate says lesbians are into Subarus

Jan 25, 2014 23:46

I chanced to see an odd little reference to lezzies owning Subarus, mainly as a result of smart niche advertising by the company. Seems it "... has gained recognition for 'gay-coded' ad campaigns, including one that featured custom license plates like 'XENA-LVR,' 'P-TOWN,' and 'CAMP OUT ( Read more... )

on top, insatiable, car-sex, lesbians

Subarus? Yer lookin fer Subarus? We got yer Subarus right heeerrre~ lol Seriously, the Island has five Subaru Outbacks, various years & colors but a lot alike. We rock our Roos. Really it is partly a lezzie thing I think (but I never heard of the Navratilova connection before), we know lots of other GLBT folks with Roos (aka Subes). BUT mostly it's just a native Colorado thing, the Subaru wagon is like the Unofficial Official State Vehicle of Colorado. Ongoing debate here whether a *dirty Subaru* ought to be a drink thing or a sex thing. We say it's both. ("Got lucky last night, she got me drunk & hauled my ass, it was a Double Dirty Subaru night~") But that's only five out of about 30+ in the Island fleet between the 18 of us. We have some backups, leftovers & specialty vehicles, and yeah, we have parking issues. The fleet right this minute includes Audi, BMW, M-B and VW (several of each), Porsches, Range Rovers, Jeeps, Volvos, a big Toyota Land Cruiser, an old Ford Bronco, a Mini Cooper, an old Miata, a Mazda rotary, a Maserati, a ( ... )

Dear Kelly -- which brings me back to the query I made of Rio when she commented that I was confusing ThePonies with THE Island. To wit -- I wondered, a mere 27 entries ago (!), whether, with all the vehicles, you had a bridge to the mainland, or perhaps ferries were the choice for transit. Teehee!

Oh, and as the resident sports car fiend, I did note the Maserati, RX8, and the Tesla! (FYI there's also Subaru's WRX [look for the righteous hood scoop!], one of the stealthier hot rods around...)

And, of course, "dirty Subaru" does offer such lovely possibilities. Another one is a sultry dance (but sex and dancing are the same thing, sometimes).

I'm from the West (born in LA), and I have that same "you gotta have wheels!" attitude. Sorry about the carbon footprint, but there IS the Tesla for an alternate (green) future! Joanne drives a Ford Escape hybrid -- maybe that counts. And she used to have a Honda Civic hybrid (I got 46 mpg driving a steady 80 mph across Texas a couple of years ago...).

Thanks again, J

Right on with your Dirty Subaru dance! lol Gotta be a hot lezzie club dance track~

My baby do that thing she do
She do that Dirty Subaru! The "Dirty Subaru" can totally be a car, a drink, a dance and a sex thing, all at once. Or one after the other, more likely. *I jumped in my dirty Subaru to go get me a Dirty Subaru and at the bar they were playing that song about the--* Well and so on. True, us Westerners gotta have wheels. Our Circle's vehicle fleet does leave a serious carbon footprint, but we're very green in lots of other ways. And that sparkly new Tesla S is an absolute star here, what a fabulous car! We're lovin it, we'll probably get more of them. But it's really our Hexagon who are the hardcore car crazies among us, they're the ones with the vintage sports car collections, Ferraris, Alfas, Bentleys, Astons, Maseratis, '57 Desotos, Jags, old Mustangs, old BMWs, AC Cobras, old race cars, all sorts of exotic stuff, very cool to get to play with their toys. Which way did you drive across Texas? Crossing Texas was a big part of ( ... )

Thanks, Kelly -- yup, I was thinking ferries and fairies! Maybe a pink Cadillac for them...

We were westbound on I-20, where the honest-to-god posted speedlimit is 80... and we just wanted to get across there, pronto!

That Tesla is pretty cool, though their little roadster is the really sexy one. From what you write, Hexagon must be a fun place to visit. I've loved Alfas, too -- I had an elderly Giulia spyder when I lived in Rome, and before that a GTV coupe in Washington, DC. And I'm really looking forward to Chrysler importing Alfas pretty soon.
