As you loyal LJ pals can attest, I've been well sheltered from the sudden worsening of Washington's ever-changeable weather! It WAS a beautiful day -- seen from INSIDE, with the fireplace going

First, ooooh, your icon is getting some; she MUST be a she, so she's a fun little lezzie (I believe)...
Second, it was an okay time: Joanne had just the perfect night, from her perspective. I enjoyed our dinner together in a charming little place; church was not as annoying as it CAN be -- thanks to the lovely carols, the decorations and the festive mood. (I do dislike the absurd fussing over communion; the body/blood mumbo-jumbo, all the practicing Catholics lining up for their wafer/wine -- I obviously don't partake...) And the party was pleasant, just sitting, chatting, Irish coffees, a winding down.
Next act: our friend gets in from London tomorrow, much to organize in the morning.
Christmas mass is better than most of them. Catholocism is freaky! My newphew is going to do his first communion this year. I remember his sister's first communition last year. It really was the first time I paid any attention to this. Perhaps it is becxause their sound system is amazing. The church that my parents attend is horrid. I can not hear a thing. I do not think that children should be hearing that. I think if they did not believe it was a transubstantiation but a symbol of the body/blood I would not have an issue with it. But they do not. EWWWW!
I'm with you -- bizarre. But I keep Tom Lehrer's "Vatican Rag" in mind -- "2-4-6-8, time to transubstantiate!" The other lyric I like is, "do any [dance] step you want if -- you have cleared it with the Pontiff"
Yup, IF I ever played the lottery, with the mad odds!
But it was a pretty good evening, considering some of it was time spent in church. Even if the music was good, and there were friends to greet, it's still vaguely off-putting...
