Freezing! But we're out in the Christmas Eve weather to participate !!!

Dec 24, 2013 20:33

As you loyal LJ pals can attest, I've been well sheltered from the sudden worsening of Washington's ever-changeable weather! It WAS a beautiful day -- seen from INSIDE, with the fireplace going.

BUT we (meaning Joanne) had a commitment to sing The Eve. So, thinking hard, I proposed dinner at an old and great Georgetown restaurant, Martin's Tavern. So we set out an hour and a half before choir practice, lucking into a curbside space only 30 yards from the festive-looking door. But that was a fierce, windy walk!

Inside, with what seemed to be a third of the city's half-frozen elite (it USED to be a lower-middle-class joint), we got some wine and a really convivial meal (great corned beef!). THEN, we paid and got back to the car, really battling against an icy wind. (The good news being, no precipitation -- the vicious storm skirting us in the north...)

Drove the 6 blocks to Trinity, again scoring a parking place a half-block away. We hustled from the cold back into the building's warmth. It's now 8:20, and I'm fetched up in a part of the.back of the church, a bit distant from the rehearsal -- but where I can get a signal. (And, by accident, overhear the previous mass finishing up -- some gorgeous music from the OTHER choir, about whom we do not converse.)

So, in 15 minutes, I need to seek out a seat for the main mass -- various friends to meet/greet, and Joanne to listen to...not bad for this long-lapsed Catholic (story for another time) who HATES the goddamned cold!

And, eventually back into the night, to go to a small midnight party at a dear friend's home, and thence to BED. Hopefully warm...

hoi polloi, access, hmmm, nostalgia
