Racism is behind Tea Party attitude to Obama

Many of us have suspected that small-minded Tea Party folk simply hate that we have a black President. Not to say that's their ONLY motive, but it does account for much of their gut-level rejection* of Obama's programs and priorities ( Read more... )

Careful: While many racists dislike Obama, not everyone who dislikes Obama is a racist.

I voted for him the first time around, looking for the "change" that he promised. However, after seeing what he did the first four years, I took my vote else-where. Had my crystal ball been able to predict some of the stuff he'd pull during his first term, I wouldn't have voted for him then.

You're right about the Romney's behavior. Neither party has any integrity.

Actually, D, I was motivated not by people opposed to Obama but, rather, Tea Party types who are evidently behind the current outrage perpetrated by the House Republicans. And Abramowitz's study is focused on the Tea Party (or, as I believe they prefer, the Tea Parties -- since they don't deign to have national leaders...).

It is ONE thing to oppose the President on anything of substance whatsoever, and quite another to do as Mitch McConnell said, in effect, several years ago -- to conspire to make him fail. Pretty god-damned pathetic! And THEN there's the THIRD thing -- to hate him simply for being "Other"...

Aw, 'tweren't nothing!

But, hopefully, it helps to know one's enemy. And, pretty clearly, there's virulent racism out there among the Know-Nothings of the rabid right. And it's really depressing to realize that Boehner and the rest of the Republican so-called "leadership" knows nothing better than to suck up to these creeps.

I looked up Abramowitz's book on the internet, and there were a number of people reviewing it and commenting on it. It was sadly amusing to see some sites respond angrily to the idea that they might possibly be racist about Obama, and yet keep commenting on the fact that Abramowitz is a Jew, as if this invalidated his opinions...
