Precursors and origins
The word "hamburger" originated in Hamburg, Germany. In Hamburg it was common to put a piece of roast pork into a roll, called Rundstück warm, although this is missing the "essence" of the modern hamburger, which is ground meat.

Last August my father and I went to Hanover to first visit the local Sea Life Centre and then the Herrenhausen Gardens which I had never been to even though Hanover isn't far away from where I live. And they are such a lovely place, if you're around, you should pay them a visit.

I saw this video on YouTube and thought that others may be interested in watching it.

It compares the attitudes and norms on sexuality between East and West Germans, which is quite fascinating, particularly given the different roles that communism and the Church played in shaping each society.

I have come across references to the drinking of 'gewürzte Schockolade' in a book that I am reading (from the first half of the 19th Century); can anyone tell me what these spices would have consisted of? Is chocolate still drunk in spiced form in Germany?
