Here in the US, I wonder if their "Mac & Cheese" was based on the Käsespätzle concept. I should look this up. :)

Whenever I have to go to Munich in that period, I hate the Oktoberfest with a vengeance, as there are always LOTS of drunk people around day and night, all the public transport is full of vomit and there is generally a lot of chaos everywhere. The fest itself is totally overpriced, particularly the beer, the food and the rides. And nowadays it is really full of foreigners (more and more Italians), who do "organized tours" to come and get as drunk as possible for a few days. Not really what it was in my childhood years, a place where to go with your family and have a few nice hours, alas.

So, you don't hat the Oktoberfest itself, but was came out of it after total commercialisation?

absolutely. Until the late '70ies it was really nice, obviously there were people who went there only to get drunk but it was not the majority, and most of the rides and attractions were really family oriented.

Yes, that's interesting. I remember from years back that most of the "tourists" were either American or Japanese (some of them running about in Lederhosen SO drunk on the beer) but overall, it seemed far less international. Just a reflection of the times and greater mobility, I guess. International travel isn't just for the monied bunch/middle classes anymore so statistically you'd get more of the total hooligan types along with the rest.
