I think university clothes are fine, a shirt or a baseball cap would be ok, too, I guess. (I'd suggest colors like dark blue, red, white ... sth. like that)

And american sweets are nice, I myself would like to get my hands on some special oreo cake you cannot get in Germany *lol*

And it of course depends on the teens you are getting things for (male, female, their intrests etc.).

Do you mean the oreo cheesecake? Because it seems like I know a lot of people from both Denmark and Germany that really love/want this cake.

I'm too far away from the teen age to really know, but personally I'd prefer a baseball cap. ;)

I have no idea if beanies are popular with teenagers, but I think it's a good idea. Especially if the beanies have a school logo or the name printed on them.

As for the oreos. You can buy them in Germany. Maybe you could include something else typically American instead if you want to bring something they've never had before. Fudge isn't common here for example, but I don't know how practical that would be to put in a beanie. ;-)
