There's a show on Food Network that just absolutely drives me up the wall. The show is "Cooking for Real with Sunny Anderson." It's another one of their daytime mediocrities cut from the same vapid cloth as Rachel Ray and Sandra Lee, except this time the producers annoyingly decided to incorporate some hip lingo into the title ( Read more... )

When Scott proposed, he used the phrase "For Reals." Does that count?

Also: no one wants to eat Rachel Ray's cooking. Actually, no one wants to watch her either! (i find her incredibly annoying).

I dunno if that counts. When I hear people use "for reals/realz," it's usually in an ironic fashion (about the phrase itself, not the actual idea being expressed). So I'd say Scott is in the clear.

Besides, "for real" is so 2001. "For realz" is (at least) so 2006.

Well, a lot of folks are. Ya know, Valley Girl talk was, like, so totally 1982, and somehow a whole generation of young women who were just born then or after have come to talk that way. Dude, how did that happen?

I mean, like, nobody says "groovy" anymore. Except me, I guess. Hey, at least I picked that up in 1971 when it was still a current term. It was always fun to use it around folks who weren't exactly keen on hippie-era lingo.

As to Rachael Ray, I have to confess that I saw something of hers on TV the other day that actually might be worth a try! (Shoot me later.)

I hear they're coming out with a new James Bond film:
South Ossetia: From Russia with Love ... FOR REAL!
