I don't know if it's a generational thing or not, but it seems folks our age are generally against yellow gold. My parents have yellow gold wedding bands, as do my grandparents. They have nice rings, but it's just not what looks attractive to me.
My ring is rhodium-plated white gold. I was originally going to get a platinum band, but since last summer when we started looking platinum has shot up drastically in price to the point where it's just not feasible.
How does your skin react to noble metals? I know you have a metal sensitivity - is it nickel-related?
Yellow gold is really unpopular right now. Many people don't like it, or think it doesn't look good on them, etc. I think it might actually have something to do with the fact that it's traditional. White gold is a lot more modern looking.
I think the other thing is that people's everyday jewelry tends to be silver, and they want something that won't clash.
Platinum is cool, but some places don't recommend it because it scratches more easily than white gold. I think it gets smaller scratches, which are harder to fix. I don't remember exactly, I don't really work with platinum. And it could've just been a marketing thing. But white gold is very nice.
My e-ring is platinum, and it does have very tiny scratches in it. The thing is that the metal isn't gone. only moved around, so they can be buffed out. But my ring looks antique, so it's just like a patina and I like it.
Thank you! I'm looking forward to trying on the one in my size (the demonstrator wasn't a good fit). I think it's going to be a very comfortable ring to wear, which is good, because I don't want to take it off!
Rhodium-plated white gold. Originally I was going to get a platinum band, but that was before platinum hit $2200 an ounce. As it is gold's at about $950 an ounce.

I also prefer silver to yellow gold, and simple, traditional styles.
