You know, I don't remember the exact that I flew out of the states on my to Kuwait. Which isn't that surprising, really. I've always been horrible with dates. Still, my third Iraqaversary is coming up.
I know how you feel about not wanting to take any of it back. I've said more than once that my time there was at the same time the best and worst experience of my life. I grew so much as a person that I can't imagine not going at this point.
So, here's to you. I'll raise a metaphorical glass with you (and maybe, someday, a real one.)
Heee. I'm definitely in the "former" category, but I know exactly what episode you're talking about! And yeah, that pretty much illustrates my approach to the past - everything, good or bad, is a building block in an intricately designed tower. Remove one block and the whole structure collapses.
While we have had different experiences in the Marines, I think we would agree about one thing: Our lives will be forever changed by our time in the Corps. I know my life has changed greatly. Honest to god, I have absolutely NO contact with any of my friends from my pre-Marine days. It's hard to articulate, but I'm just a vastly different person.
you are wonderful wyl and no could ever replace you. i am so glad that i know you and to have you in our circle of friends. i especially love you for your giant heart and for the love you give a dear dear friend of mine.
