A long time ago I got used to the idea that the information about my life was effectively public domain. I used to worry about wiretapping, the NSA, etc. I remember when the telecommunications act of 1996 was put into effect and I knew that after that became a reality any phone could be tapped from anywhere ( Read more... )

Remember when people used to handwave away this government spying by default? Me too, they're continuing that trend to this day. What government spooks got at them, anyway?

Yeah both parties have managed to allow the puc and FCC to encourage telcos, isps, and online service providers to sell data to the government outside of a public subpoena process.

Both of our less than stellar political parties have renewed the Patriot act every chance they get, as well as the presidential powers act so congress doesn't have to sign their name on starting a war.

I ran for city council in 2020, I didn't win but I got real close against some entrenched incumbents. It's not to late to start a political career and I am going to give it another shot.

My original post was made written during a time of apathy for me not realizing the government are at the employ of the people to execute their will. I have learned quite a bit since then and I hope to make positive changes, even if small.
