Spartacus: Vengeance finale

For my money, that was one of the best and most satisfying hours of TV I've seen in ages.

HUGE SPOILERS below the cut! )

Ha, I think I had reached my gore tolerance point with the cutting off of entire faces earlier in the season. If that didn't do it, Ashur's head-whacking might have.

There was so much unexpected death on this show, it has made me gleeful, and spoiled. Maybe they feel free to do it because we all know the slaves are totally doomed regardless. Unlike shows like SPN, which kill someone off and then are like, WHOOPS! Do-over!

You know, this,

But that begs the question, how much longer can this show go on?

has always been at the back of my mind with this series. In a sense it makes me happy to have to wait for the dvds but to hear you so ecstatic over a tv series takes me back and makes me want to share the thrill with you right now!

Still better to have a limited run of a good show then a long run of mediocrity. Oh, wait! We've been there done that, haven't we? *big grin*

Hee, yes. We have. More than once. *g* Spartacus is my back-burner joy, much like Mad Men, Southland, and Game of Thrones. I can't get too attached to them, because they are hanging by a thread year to year, and because they take so damn long to come back on TV! But I'm happy there are least a few people watching.

Definitely better to enjoy what we have in this case.

Girl, I can't even with this ep. TOTAL FUCKING EPICNESS FROM START TO FINISH. (although, like you, I was all 'where's my Agron/Nasir heart eyes at??')

I was totally deceived by Lucretia too. Dude! I thought it was all a mindfuck on her part to get her vengeance and then BAM! she be crazy FOR REALSIES. ACK. Lucy Flawless strikes again. I'm going to miss the hell out of her and Illythia next season. They better deliver some more awesome women for us to love...

Oh, and Mira and Oenamaus. *SOB* I mean I knew Oenamaus or Gannicus would bite it and that my heart would break, AND IT DID. And at the very beginning when Queen Mira said that thing to Spartacus about his 'next woman' I was like, oh damn, I bet they're going to kill Mira and it'll be in protection of Spartacus and then MORE GUILT...

A;LDKFJA;DLF. So many feelings about this episode. I was biting my nails the entire time. (is it 2013 yet??)

That whole offing of the awesome women thing is hard to take, and it's the one big downside of all this surprising death and awesomeness. They wiped out 3/4 of them with one fell swoop, and now we have Naevia, and the blond German chick who is making eyes at Gannicus. Plus you know there will be someone new for Spartacus, but they won't be as awesome as Mira, and I'll be sad about that.

UGH 2013, that is so depressing. At least we get Merlin back in between. These short 13 ep seasons and the 9 month ramp-up are difficult!!!

This was a great episode (and why must the season be so short?), but... I was so bummed, so very bummed to see that Illythia was just stringing Lucretia along with this "we're the bestest of friends" -stuff (understandable, but still), and meant to kill Lucretia by shoving down the balcony. And I was dissapointed that Lucretia was similarly faking, and that she maimed Illy for that kid, and sooo shocked when she jumped the cliff with that kid. What can I say? I was really hoping fo a real friendship story between women (alas, it is not to be in this show, which is pretty much the story of men, and women's only as sidepieces). I would have loved the entire L/I story be different, and had hoped they would raise the child together after everyoe else is dead ( ... )

I'm so invested in all the characters at this point, and I have so much faith in the show to bring in new characters I'll love just as much (because they did with Gods of the Arena), that I will be sticking with it regardless. I'm sorry to hear that Crixus is pretty much all you're hanging on for. Alas.

Lucretia and Illythia have never really been friends; there was too much bad blood there, and both of them are bad to the bone. Always have been. Their true colors began shining through the moment their self-interest became clear. Also, Lucretia is just crazycakes, so. I think mining a genuine friendship out of that would have been quite a feat. But I loved how they kept us guessing! This show is great at that.

I/L guessing game was quite something, and I loved everybit (except the ending, yikes). But still, I had hoped for an entirely diffrent take on that part of the story. But like you said, that was impossible with characters like L&I... but still, no women's friendships? Not Mira/ somebody, not Saxa/ somebody, not anything? WTF?

And was sorry to see Glaber go, the devil you know... and I thought CP had really grown into the role. But, as it is, we'll breathlessly await new characters.

Oh, really?? I didn't know they had confirmed we were supposed to take Illythia as a goner. That had such a strong echo of Lucretia's 'death scene' in the first season that I wondered. My oh my. Well, that's that! Now they will have to work hard to bring on some outstanding female characters. Those are big shoes to fill for sure. *g*

Heh, great point about Agron/Nasir. I suspect theirs will be one of the big love stories next season. One can only hope!
