The state of the fannish me

Sep 19, 2011 12:59

Happy Monday, people in LJ-land! I tried to write this post about 23406283 times over the weekend, but it went on too long, and I got tired writing it. I can only imagine how you would have felt reading it. So I shall sum up!

I don't think there can EVER be too many ideas!! I'm so looking forward to what you draw next. Really, the talent in this tiny fandom is outrageous; I just want to roll around in the deliciousness all the time. :D And I'm glad this came along for you when it did. It's so lovely to be in a group of people all feeling renewed fannishness over this.

Hooray! Being fannish and happy about it is a great feeling! The Eagle has kind of eaten my brain since March, so I know where you're coming from. (I have a novel-length story in beta, and last night I saw the picture prompts for the new challenge and have 4000 words today and an idea that WILL NOT QUIT.)

Also I am looking forward to all your fic and vids! Eeee!

SO EXCITED for the stories you are going to be posting, eee! Especially novel-length, OMG. I have absolutely nothing against short stories, but there aren't that many long ones in the fandom, and they are like gold.

> the things I want to write in that fandom are too cliched

Not that I am involved in your fandom at the moment, but OMG, that's 90% of what I want from fic. The cliches. The well-worn paths. Yet another first-time story.

*nods* I think there's infinite space in fandom to do the same basic concepts--everyone writes them differently!

Honestly, this is exactly how I feel. I see 'fuck or die' or 'aliens made them do it' or 'sex pollen' or 'first time' and I think, YES! EXCELLENT! And I just have felt like in the last few years, there's a lot of snide derision of those tropes, a lot of discouraging of writers who want to write them. Possibly that's the leading edge of BOFQ status and I fail to recognize the signs, but fuck it; that's what I've seen, and it hasn't made me happy. Fandom should be about that stuff we all love.

/end tiny rant
