Help! There's a spider in the lobby!

Jun 08, 2009 02:47

There’s nobody in sight on the beach, with a bit of a wind, the waves slightly choppy, chewing on the shore leisurely yet aggressively, the palm trees fronds dancing in the gusts.

Suddenly, not twenty-five feet away from a tree, about a hundred feet in the air, a thin stream of gooey white fires into the air, followed by a man in a bright blue and ( Read more... )

"Hello!" Sulu says cheerfully froma couch, where he's engrossed in The Three Musketeers. It's kind of fun, he's found, to be reading actual books instead of holograms. But he sets the book down and gives this new arrival a pleasant smile.

"I'm guessing you're another new one, right?" And clearly not from the same time period as him, if the clothes are anything to go by.

Peter smiles at the man reading the book on the couch. "Another new one?" he says, frowning and adjusting his glasses. "What do you mean by that?"

"Well -- you've, uh, found yourself in a hotel. I'm not sure if it's a time-space anomaly or a pocket dimension, but it's a hotel on an island. No one can get out of it, apparently." Sulu shrugs a little and gets up, wandering over to offer this new young man a hand.

"I'm Hikaru Sulu."

Peter's pretty fluent in physics, math, and that sort of thing, so the idea of a pocket dimension or time-space anomaly isn't entirely foreign to him, even if he's never experienced it first hand. "That's....weird," Peter admits, shrugging, grabbing Sulu's hand. "I'm Peter. Peter Parker."

The lobby is the last of the places Diana frequents these days, but a girl's got to get to her sparring practice somehow. Walking past and carrying a heavy practice sword on her shoulders, she pauses to help orient Peter. "Hello," she replies, setting down the weapon. "Have you jus found yourself here?"

Peter's eyes bug out slightly when he sees the woman come into the room, towering over him and carrying a massive sword. He takes a minute to compose himself - this woman radiates confidence, and well, Peter's not the most confident guy in the world.

"Uh, um, yeah, yeah I did," Peter says lamely, looking at the ground, his voice trailing into silence. "Do you, um, do you know anything about this place?"

Confidence, yes, but not unkindness. Once her sword is at rest she extends her hand to Peter, a gentle smile on her face. "Only a bit, I'm sorry to say. This place raises more questions than it answers."

Peter takes her hand with a quirky smile and shakes it, then sticks both his hands in his pockets. "Well, at leaset there's someone friendly around here. I'm Peter, what's your name?"

Another dorky superhero happens to be walking nearby, and he'll stop and give Peter a faint smile. "Uh, just got here, I guess?"

Peter turns and smiles, glad to see a friendly face. "Yeah, maybe you could help me, I, uh, seem to be lost. Do you know a way to get the quickest flight back to New York?"

He knows it's absurd that less than half an hour ago he had been swinging through the streets of Manhattan and now he was asking for how to get a plane back there, but until dangerous things started happening he wasn't going to freak out, just get back, to Mary Jane and Aunt May.

Clark frowns sympathetically. "I'm sorry. All indications are that there's no way off the island."

"Aw, you're kidding me," Peter says, his shoulders sagging. "And I was on my way to the Bugle after, um, my appointment. Mr. Jameson's not gonna be happy," he says, softly, almost to himself. He looks at Clark and sighs. He has no reason to distrust him, but he should at least find out if there's anyone else here. "So, I assume you're not the only one living here," he starts to say, then stops himself, holding his hand forward. "My name's Peter, by the way. Peter Parker."
