Intro Post: Adam Monroe

May 03, 2009 01:01

The man who stumbles into the hotel is smartly dressed and seems as if he would the type to be well-groomed if not for the fact that he looks as if he just wandered out of an unpleasant portion of hell. It takes him a moment to notice his own state, staring around at the hotel lobby in confusion. When he does, he straightens up, trying to smooth ( Read more... )

"Not you either, mate?" comes a slurred voice from the floor behind the counter, where Jack's decided to fall over in a rum-induced dipsomania. He hoists himself up slowly, blinking at Adam as he leans too far forward. "Condolences. Delirium's not what it used to be."

Typist: *will just be over here fangirling you kthx*

Adam looks over the counter, scowling at the oddly dressed man on the other side. "Great, and my inner voice just escaped from a Pirates of Penzance production." He leans on the counter, rubbing his brows with his free hand. "If you start singing, I'm yanking the plug on this whole delusion."

Typist: Heee, thank you! :D I couldn't resist.

Jack meets Adam's gaze with half-closed eyes, sombre and strangely dignified. "I can see you're no patron of the arts," he notes. "And exactly what heinous offense do you hold against the muses, mate? Wouldn't've taken a fellow like yourself for a Philistine."

"The fact that I prefer my music to be done by the muses themselves, not the drunks that stumble in their wake." Though, truthfully, he could go for getting royally drunk himself. "What's the name of this place?" At least it seems to be in good taste, if not for the clientele.

"There's no one there," Claire notes from the bottom of the staircase. She's looking Adam over with interest, his appearance simple enough except for the stained and dirty suit. "There's no staff at all, as far as we know, but you can still take your key." Thoughtfully, she adds, "Where'd you come in from?"

Adam glances over at the voice; well, now, at least his mind is playing nice, now. "No staff at all? What a strange hotel. Where would I get my key?" He looks down at his clothes, wishing he were a bit cleaner. "I - am afraid I just got mugged." It seems like a good enough lie. "So you will have to forgive me for my state."

"Ouch!" She winces. "Are you okay? Did they get anything?" The man seems polite and not very dangerous, especially if he's just been mugged, so Claire doesn't hesitate to draw closer and gesture to the envelope. "It should be on the front desk, though no one knows who puts them there."

"I'm alright, no worries-" He feels his pocket. "My wallet, and my keys, though I suppose I'll live- I doubt they even know which car is mine." He gives her a tight smile. "This is definitely a welcome change of scenery, however strange." He frowns at her words, turning and picking up the envelope with his name on it. "- spooky," he mentions, opening it carefully and finding his key.

"Are you okay?" This is from the playboy heading downstairs. He heads over and gives Adam a small, polite smile. "I know it's confusing when you first get here. But there should be a key on the desk for you." Bruce glances over his clothes for a minute, studying him carefully.

"Nothing hurt under that? If you are, I know a doctor."

" - I am fine, thank you." Adam returns the smile with a polite one of his own. "Though a bit confused, yes." He turns back towards the counter, becoming more interested in this place by the second.

"- oh, no, thank you. Just got a mite bruised up." He shrugs, trying to play it nonchalant. "The crime on the streets are just terrible these days. You can barely walk to the parking lot."

"Yeah." There's a bit of a tight smile. "Yeah, my city's a lot like that, back home." Bruce offers a hand after a moment, still inspecting Adam carefully. "I'm Bruce Wayne," he adds, that smile relaxing into a more carefree playboy grin. "So where are you from?"

Adam takes his hand and shakes it firmly. "Adam Monroe." It is a simple enough alias, so he does not see the harm in using it. Very few people would know it, and even if they did, who knew how many Adam Monroes there were? He nearly shakes his head at himself; he is thinking as if this is actually happen. "A pleasure to meet you."

"I was born in London, as you can probably tell, but most recently I'm from New York. Is that not where I am now, or am I that completely lost?" He tilts his head, pretending to take this all in a stride. "How about yourself?"

If it didn't mean leaving Tony unattended for hours, Pepper would have considered taking over the front desk. There was no shortage of new arrivals these days, and someone capable ought to be responsible for welcoming them and explaining their new surroundings.

"I'm afraid you're not hallucinating, sir." She smiled wryly and gestured around the lobby. "Welcome to the Hotel."

"Do you work here?" he asks, tilting his head at the pretty woman. "I am afraid I am quite at a loss as to how I got here, if I am not in my own head."

"I'm afraid I don't. As far as anyone can tell, no one works here. I know it sounds strange and not at all common place like I'm making it seem, but I've given this speech to quite a few people."

She took a deep breath and then continued with her explanation of sorts. "You just - appear here. It's how I got here, and everyone else. No one's been able to find out how or why."

"How very odd." He runs a hand through his hair, looking around again. "Well, I suppose there are worse places to be." He gets lost in thought for a moment before catching himself.

"Forgive me, I am a bit out of sorts." He steps forward and offers her a hand. "I am Adam Monroe."

Like she does at her old hotel, Lisa pops out of the woodwork and smiles brightly at the newcomer in greeting. She was used to working with difficult customers, and this man seems not much different. It was at least better than Lucian, who had shown up in a bloody mess.

"Hey there, can I help you?"

Adam tilts his head to the side, studying the woman who suddenly showed. "I'm sorry, do you work here?" he asks doubtfully; he does not think he would be so lucky as to be the first person in this hotel to see a staff member.

"No, but I can offer assistance," she replies, just as pleasantly. Men like this at home never phased her. Really there is only one that ever got to her... and he wasn't a customer.

"Your key is on the front desk. It should have your name written on the envelope."

He arches an eyebrow. "Thank you. I suppose it is beyond asking any 'hows' or 'whys?'" He is rather resigned to the fact that this place is going to be nothing but odd, at this point.
