There is a John Cohen hanging around the main room. In his case, 'hanging around' means sitting with a cup of coffee and a copy of Preston and Child's Relic. He looks almost relaxed for once, stretched out on a couch and sipping his coffee every so often. Feel free to bother him, he might even be nice.

Ruth 'Mama' Cohen wanders into the main room. She has a copy of Night by Elie Wiesel in one hand and a cup of strong tea in the other. She smiles as she sees John, attempting hard not to roll her eyes at him. After all, he hasn't seen her since they last spoke, and that was ages ago to her.

Sitting down near him in a chair, she began to read. She might be nice too, but she won't be nice first. She's a woman and a Jewish one at that. Saying she has a frosty edge would be putting it mildly.

John raises an eyebrow and gives her a smile as she sits down, then takes a quick swallow of coffee.

"Hi there," he says after a minute, setting his book down. "Night, again?"

She placed her book down and sipped her tea, smiling warmly at him. He looked good, better than she'd actually say to him.

"I couldn't find anything new to read. They don't even have Women's World or Good Housekeeping." She chuckled. "And what are you reading?"

"Oh, it's a murder mystery kind of thing. It's pretty good." He takes another sip of coffee and moves to sit next to her. "You could try Cosmo, if you want? I've seen some of Mark's friends reading it." Look, he might even be laughing.

Joanne wanders out from the kitchen with a copy of her own. "Oh -- uh, hi, Mr. Cohen."

John looks up and tilts his head, squinting a little. "Um. --Joanne, right? Hi."

"Yeah, that's me." This is Jo feeling awkward. "What are you reading?"

"Uh, Relic. It's a murder mystery kind of thing." There's a slightly awkward shrug.

Maureen bounds in, and figures she might as well stop and say hi to the ex's dad. "Well hey, Mr. C!" She contemplates plopping in his lap, but wisely decides against it.

John looks up and raises an eyebrow. "Hi, Maureen. What's new?"

Which he doesn't want to know about, thank you very much. "Relic. It's a murder mystery."

Here's an Olive walking past, a Starburst curled up in her arms. She sees Mr Cohen and stops, not sure if she should say anything to her pseudo-grandfather.

Typist: PS I love that book.

Honestly? Probably even John can't manage to be not nice to Olive. So he sets his book down and gives her a slight smile. "Hi there. It's Olive, right?"

Typist: Soooo do I. :D

She nods shyly. "You're... you're Mark's dad-- aren't you?"

Typist: Have you read Reliquary or Cabinet of Curiosities?

"Yeah, I am. I'm John." He pauses to take a sip of coffee. "What's your cat's name?"

Typist: Yep! I've read all of them. :) Because Preston and Child are ridiculously shiny.
