Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose...

A man is on the deck, crumpled and pathetic in clothes that are filthy and torn. It seems to take time for him to realise he is alive and unbound, but slowly and almost fearfully he uncurls himself and rises to his feet. He takes a breath, slowly at first, bracing himself for the inevitable coughing fit that will shake him as firmly as ever he had ( Read more... )

Versatile indeed, that was fast. And Camille, having turned up, penny-like, around the middle of the little speech, deigns to grace it with applause.

"Fantastic! A few more and we can have a circus."

Well, Fabre isn't all that fond of being stuck filthy and ragged for very long, so is determined to make life as comfortable as possible as quickly as he can.

"A circus? Really, Camille, you pain me. You - " The words had been automatic, but he breaks off in the shock of realisation and spins to face him. "You...escaped."

Typist: I think I'm going to need the occasional update on existence of stutter from this one.

Smart man! Fortunately that shouldn't be difficult. But Camille gives him a smaller, quicker smile and minute headshake.

"No. No, of course not."

Typist: Bwee, incentive. Shall do. :) Also, ignore my fail at html. >_>

"No. You are right. Robespierre never would have changed his stance especially at such a late stage. I, of course, was a dead man either way." He gives himself a shake and brushes imaginary dust from his ragged sleeve. "However, that appears to have changed, and I mean to make the most of it. Can you tell me what our prospects are like here?"

Salacious, is it? I think I'd like some, but I've not got any money. *grins* Hallo, you.

Fabre's smile is instant, though he twitches slightly on hearing Danton doesn't have any money. "Danton, this is quite a fortuitous reunion. I assume you were no luckier than myself or our Camille in achieving escape?"

"Unfortunately, you would assume correctly." There's a bit of a smirk, though. "Neither did Ma -- Robespierre or his pup, though."

"While that is some consolation, it would be more touching had they preceded us. Still," he added with a humourless smile, "I think we can consider this a renewed chance to make things as difficult for them as possible, after all they did for us."

He pauses to listen and then passes his hands over his eyes, as if pained. Then Maxime approaches, all prim and proper. "Your hot air is quite wasted here."

Fabre turns indignantly, but pales, his words catching in his throat, when he sees him.

When he does speak, his voice is strained. "What... What more do you want of me, Robespierre?"

He shrugs. "Your silence?"

His back straightens and colour returns to his cheeks in a furious gush, emboldened by the presence of Camille and especially Danton.

"How dare you?" First in a hoarse whisper, but then resonating. "How dare you? You strip a man of everything, and then have the nerve, the gall to strip him again of his voice. I will never give you my silence."

Here, then, Fabre can have a young man who's disturbingly like Saint-Just in his posture, and a bit of his attitude. "...You are welcome, citoyen."
