*All dark-suited and frowning, because he doesn't know where he is and that's not right and wasn't he just dead anyway and what the Hell is going on and what happened to France and why is there suddenly a boat?*

I..er...what?!

As if suddenly appearing from behind, Squeaky pipes in, "Don't question it!"

*blinks* But why not, mlle? Is it a secret truth or doesn't anyone know?

"Uhh. Well, I'd ask Charlie, but he's not here, but I dunno- I don't think anyone really knows where this boat's goin'."

Well, if that is true, I at least have fair companions in my ignorance, mlle.

*wisely, with a hint of squee* That's a very good question, mon ami.

*Joly, hi!* I suppose it isn't one I'm supposed to expect a comprehensible answer to?

"It might be an afterlife?" is as comprehensible as it gets, I'm afraid. *is pretty bouncy for a dead guy, though*

*considers* Well, it's a few questions answered, if that's the case. Unexpected answers, perhaps, but answers none the less. *grin* At least I'm not alone, if you and Combeferre are here.

Ah, a question with so many levels. I could on for hours on the topic, but I think your question is rather "Where am I and why am I here?" Oui? Well, to put it as plainly as possible... I haven't the slightest clue. Well, I have ideas, of course, but not a scrap of proof for any of them at all, and really, what good are theories without evidence?

All about the context, mon ami. *slightly befuddled* If you don't know, what hope is there for the rest of us? I thought death would be slightly different. Give me a theory to cling to?

Erm, very well then. The theory that holds the most water.....so to speak... is the afterlife theory. Of course there are a number of mythologies that involve boats, so it is not entirely surprising and unusual, but the most prominent of these is the Egyptian mythology. So it could well be we're on our way to see the pharaohs.

*considers this for a long few moments*

...well, I've never been to Egypt *smile*.

*fwee, it's a Fwee!* *solemnly* I'm afraid, mon ami, that you must try to be a bit more concise than that. Otherwise everyone will think we're all bloody mad, and we wouldn't want that to happen, would we? *grin* --Not yet, anyway.

*aha, tis a Bossuet, and grin!* You encourage me to practice deceit from the moment I arrive? What a friend! *pause* A moment of disorientation, mon ami, but I'll get over it. I hope, of course, I never was much of a fortune-teller.

*laughs* Well, I am a lawyer. Or nearly one, sort of. *cheery grin* Oh, you'll certainly get over it. You'll have to, if you're coming to the party.

Then I shall agree to come immediately before I ask - a party?

Am admirable sentiment. I feel much the same way, still. *smiles* It is good to see you, Feuilly.

And bonjour to you also, I'm already of far sounder mind realising that I've merely tripped along the same path as my friends *smiles*. And glad of that also.

As are we, then. *pause* Mon 'Ferre seems to think that this is some sort of afterlife. I suppose he would be the expert on such things.

An afterlife would make sense, although I've never heard of a story quite like this one. Yet I am hardly as well-read and if Combeferre says it is logical, then I do have enough sense not to argue *smile*.
