What's a Hobbit Birthday Without Gifts?

Apr 06, 2005 11:51

The Party Field was ablaze with colorful lights in paper lanterns that lit up the night. The new Party Tree, grown from the Mallorn seed given to Samwise by the Lady herself, presided over the heart of the festivities with it's grand boughs covered in bright ribbons and bows ( Read more... )

Oh, Happy Birthday, Sam! *hugs* How are you? How are Rosie and the children?

Thank you, Esetella! *hugs her back* I'm glad you could be making it to the party. Rosie and the little ones will all want to be saying hello, I've no doubt! Is Merry with you?

Oh, I'm sure he's around here somewhere. *laughs* Probably searching out Pippin and some ale, if I know him.

"Aye, and if I know my little ones, they'll be close by sampling the cakes and biscuits!" he laughed.

Hello, Samwise, Happy Birthday. It's been awhile, I hope you have been well.

I have, sir, no denying! *bowing* And thank you for the wishes. I'm glad you could be stopping by! Oh, and here! I'd like to be gifting you with this, if I can be so bold. It's nothing as fancy as elanor or anything else you'd be finding in the Lady's wood, but . . . well, sir, it has a bit of a meaning all it's own, you see.

My secretary is having a sort of fit, because forgetting your birthday seems to have upset her. I am beginning to have fears that she might be hysterical. At any rate, she seems to be extraordinarily fond of you. I do apologize on her behalf, Mr. Gamgee.

A toast to your health, sir.

Bless me, sir, but you're typist shouldn't be upset over such a thing. We keep to ourselves, we hobbits, so no surprising the big folk don't make much of our birthdays. But we do like celebrating them ourselves, no denying! And we've a custom in the Shire, to be giving gifts on birthdays (because that's even more fun than than the getting, you see).

This is for you, sir, if you'd be having it. *hands Fogg a potted Stephanotis (represenging desire to travel and happiness in marraige)*

Oh, and this is for your typist. *hands Fogg a miniature yellow rose, for friendship*

Forgive me, but I am under the impression that my secretary knows quite a lot about you. Where she learned it, I cannot say, but I suspect you've been written about at some point, just as I have.

And I do not think that "big person" is a particularly apt description, if she will forgive my saying so. She is larger than yourself, of course, but not in any way tall for a human being.

I thank you very kindly for your generosity, sir. Your courtesy does you credit. I wish the same to you. Happiness in marriage, indeed! I shall convey your well-wishes to my wife. She will be most delighted.

My secretary, I believe, wishes to thank you, but is overcome with producing that peculiar mouse-like noise. It is my understanding that this squeaking indicates excitement or joy of some kind.

Does she, now? Stars and Glory, but tales and songs do get around. Or has she been reading the Red Book. There's copies of it now, I hear, and many a folk that's read it and all about Mister Bilbo's dragon and Mister Frodo's being the bravest and most famousest of hobbits.

As for her not being one of the big folk . . . is she a dwarf? I've not seen many women dwarves. Bless me, but I have the hardest time telling them apart. They have beards, you know. Lady dwarves, I mean. Or at least, so Gimli says. But that's neither here nor there and please tell your typist that she's very welcome for the rose.

Happy birthday, Mr. Gamgee! It has been a long time since I celebrated anyone's birthday at all, I'm afraid-- it was not done within the circles I frequented-- but I should like to try it again.

Thank you! There's a fine thing about celebrating birthdays. You're sure to be having at least one a year if it's your own! Oh, and I've a gift for you, if you don't mind the giving.

Thank you, sir! *bows* And it's a pleasure to be seeing you here. I've a gift for you! And for your princess bride.

*hands Westly a lovely pot of Forget-Me-Not which, in the language of flowers, stands for Twu Luv . . . um, True Love*

Oh! And before I'm forgetting! This is for your typist. *hands him a lovely potted miniature yellow rose for friendship*
