Ahoy!

*looks curiously around*

I suppose this is what happens when you go a little overboard on your first night of shore-leave. I won't be doing that again in a hurry, I can tell you. (And no loud noises, please; I am quite sure that my head will make a dreadful mess if it explodes.)

Where am I?

This is all fishforit's fault.

*as if trying to repress--and failing--a very happy smile*

Mr. Bush! Oh, it is such a pleasure to see you here. This community is sadly lacking in officers of His Majesty's Navyand over-run with French, so it is quite wonderful indeed to have you join us.

I am quite sorry to hear of your current...indisposition. Perhaps someone here might be able to help.

What a pleasure to see you! *actually does grin this time, and grasps his hand*

It's always a pleasure to see you, Mr Hornblower!

Over-run with Frogs, eh? No chance of Major Cotard being amongst them, is there?

As for the headache - maybe I'll just try some hair of the dog. Care to join me for a glass or two of madeira?

The pleasure is all mine, sir. *quite pleased, really!*

Indeed, sir. Frogs galore and not a think to be done about them. Most of them aren't that bad, however. No, we have not yet had the...ha'hmm...pleasure of Major Cotard's presence.

I would be delighted to. Mr. Kennedy is a member here, perhaps he might find us and join us, too.

The only good Frog's a dead Frog, Styles always said.

Good lord. I must be drunker than I thought. Taking advice from Styles...! I'll have to give these Frogs a chance, I see.

*glances over his uniform and grins* Wet navy, is it? *salutes* Captain Rafe Cardones, of the HMS Werewolf, at your service, lieutenant.

A salute from a Captain! I won't forget today in a hurry. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Captain. Would you care to join me for a drink? No, that was not a pick-up line.

*laughs* Make it Rafe, please. 'S not as though I'm on duty, after all. And that drink sounds great. Really?

Typist: AUGH, Rafe is not Remus.

*shakes your hand* Then pleased to make your acquaintence, Rafe. *pours two glasses of madeira* It's good wine, this - nothing like those watery reds the Frogs drink. How long have you been on leave?

Most definitely not. I don't use pick-up lines. I prefer to get so drunk that my shipmates carry me to bed.

*thinks about that*

That was in entirely different circumstances, though. And it only happened the once. Damn.

*He gives Lt. Bush a small smile; he does remember the good days at sea, the celebrations of returning from war. The smile threatens to fade as he remembers what became of his men, and that this return was no celebration.*

Ah, a fellow man of the sea. Short nights full of poorly fermented wine... one and all, we know them well.

*raises a glass to a fellow seaman* Aye, we know those times all too well. Still - this isn't half bad, eh? No wind, no spray, plenty of drink to be had. You look as if you could do with one, in fact *pours you a glass*

*He ducks his head and takes the glass with humble ceremony* I thank you, sir.

I confess; I bid the sea behind and have of yet regretted none of it. *A slight chuckle.* A wife and son shall keep me to land.

*softly, as not to be making any loud noises* Welcome, sir. It's nice to see another wet-navy type around here. Royal Navy, correct?

*bows, and tries to take off his nonexistent hat* Rear Admiral Alistair McKeon, Royal Manticoran Navy. I'm appearing to be on permanent half-pay at this time, however. I see you've met another one of our officers already?

typist: and you've just picked up the wet-navy analog to my pup. thank you!

Firstly a salute from a Captain, and now a bow from an Admiral! What a day for a lieutenant *bows in reply* Very pleased to make your acquaintance, sir. Permanent half pay, eh? Still, the half-pay of an Admiral must be a sight better than the half-pay of a lieutenant!

Would I be correct to assume that you are Captain Rafe's Admiral?

Typist: Wet-navy analog...?

admiral_grumpy December 30 2005, 20:06:47 UTC
Well, it's only a manner of speaking, because they haven't seen fit to pay me anything here. The money transfer doesn't go that far. It does, however, beat being dead.

Well, it would be a slightly correct assumption; we're in the same navy, and I do outrank him. He's flag captain to Admiral Harrington. She's around here somewhere.

typist: well, the series my pup's from started out as a Hornblower tribute, and he was the best friend/first officer of the Hornblower equivalent...

Ah, Mr. Bush! *beams* How absolutely excellent to have you here at last. As Horatio said, we are completely overrun with Frogs and could always do with another man.

I just may have to join you in that glass. And I'll try not to drop anything heavy and loud. *grins*

Mr Kennedy! *grins widely* It's wonderful to see you here. Always good to see a familiar face! *still grinning* Not been getting into too much trouble, I hope?

You're welcome to join me - I'd be honoured, in fact - but if you do drop anything heavy and loud, I will drop something heavy and loud on your head. *96% joking, 2% deadly serious, 2% OUCH*

*grins* Oh, no more trouble than the usual, I assure you.

*amusedamused* Then I shall certainly endevor not to do so, sir. I promise to behave.
