Hello! Captain Jack Aubrey, pleased to meet you all. I'm told that there's a series of books about me and my particular friend Doctor Stephen Maturin, written by a gentleman named Patrick O'Brian. It's twenty one volumes long, which seems excessive, particularly since they seem to be hefty volumes (rather like myself, ha!) and I'd say I didn't ( Read more... )

*beams up at him* Hullo! Are you a pirate, sir?

*beams down* No, indeed, little Miss, I'm not. I'm an officer in the Royal Navy. It's quite a different thing. *winks* For one, we get much more handsome uniforms.

Oh! I should curtsy, then, not that I wouldn't curtsy if you were a pirate, but- but the Royal Navy, and such a handsome uniform...! *smiles sheepishly and curtsies* I'm Alice.

Indeed, I am sure you are well bred enough to curtsy to anyone. *bows deeply and grins* I am very pleased to make your acquaintance, Miss Alice.

Typist: Aggh! Comment didn't go through. *sulks*

Hello, sir, and welcome! I'm Lily Potter, and I'm pleased to meet you. Always good to see more Brits around here! My typist is currently reading your books, though unfortunately she tends to read about ten books at the same time so, needless to say, she isn't progressing very fast.

Pleased to meet you, Miss - Mrs? Potter. *chuckles* Your typist sounds a bit like Dr. Maturin. I'm forever finding him with five books open, and two hefty piles of notes to scribble in. He always insists he can keep track of it all, and I'm sure he does, I just have no idea how he does it!

Oh yes, that's Mrs Potter. My husband is supposed to be around here somewhere, though I haven't seen him in ages... I think that from what I can tell about him (from reading behind her shoulder), my typist and Dr. Maturin would get along well. She's very fond of books, and quite excited by different species of birds.

*looks at him and giggles, and looks away, and then looks back and blushes, and laughs again, because she's a little too brave to be shy, and a little too shy to be brave, and doesn't know exactly what she should do*

Oh! Bonjour, Monsieur! Je m'appelle La Esmeralda, Esmeralda la Zingara. *smiles prettily and bounces on her feet*

*beams* Bonjour Mademoiselle!

*this is pretty much the extent of his French, so he simply bows respectfully and grins at her - such a pretty, lively girl!*

*finally she decides to make a very deep curtsey to him, and smiles back happily--she will also speak in English from now on*

How are you, monsieur?

Very well, mademoiselle. And you?

A true pleasure, sir! My typist has informed me of your adventures and exploits, and indeed, you are a true gentleman and a fine officer.

I am most pleased to have another member of His Majesty's Navy here. We seem to be most unfortunately outnumbered by the French.

Your servant, sir. *nods*
