Hi

Captain Yossarian, 28, Assyrian, bombardier for Squadron 256, based in Pianosa. I’m currently trying to finish flying my missions, and get away from all the bastards who are trying to kill me. This is pretty damn difficult when it encompasses almost everyone I know, and most of the people I don’t. Complete strangers try to shoot me; it’s crazy ( Read more... )

*grin* Well, that's war for you. Hello and welcome! I'm Mark.

Well, that's war for you.

That doesn't make it anymore acceptable. Besides, there are plenty of other guys they can shoot at that aren't me. Thank you for the welcome though.

If you shoot at people, as your mission states, they will shoot at you, and while you may not have a better option than to shoot, it's still the situation rather than the people caught in it that you should be complaining about.

My problem is with anyone who is going to get me killed. It is people who are putting me in these situations. If that sonofabitch Cathcart didn't make our squadron fly eighty missions (the others only have to fly forty *sob*) to satisfy his own lust for recognition, I could be at home right now. Hell, I should be home anyway after all all that work that got be declared legally insane. They sent someone else home instead.

I remember that. It really starts to make you feel like everything's gone mad when you stop to think about it. Which I normally didn't, as I had people to look after, but still...

At any rate, pleased to meet you, and I hope you come through all right - touch wood!

Oh, right. *grins* I'm George Sherston, formerly of the infantry - British, naturally.

It's crazy not to think about it. It's around you all the time and yet people are blind to it. And then they declare me insane because I point it out. I'm only looking after me - it seems to be the general attitude around here. I'd be a damn fool to think any other way.

Anyway, nice to meet you George.

*stiffly* Clearly you're not a field officer. My men were the sum and the whole of my responsibilities, and I took their care very seriously. They were important.

Perhaps believing that makes me a damn fool, I don't know.

Typist: Have I said yay Yossarian yet? Because, well, yay Yossarian! (Even if he's now setting off Sherston's "Bloody flyers" instincts. *pats the captain*)

I did not mean to imply you are a damn fool. We are/were fighting different wars. Here, a man's responsibility is to himself. I only wish our field officers took the job as seriously. As it is, Cathcart almost wet his pants with excitement when he heard two men had been shot down, since it means he can send letters to their families and be recognized as a sensitive soul. It makes me sick.

Typist :D

Am I reading that right - you're going to be stabbing the fellows on your own side?

If the bastards insist on being so damn optimistic all the time, yes. They're going to die anyway with attitudes like that, so I'm doing them a service really. They want to go out there and join the fighting. They're glad the war didn't end before their training was over. Gives me the creeps just thinking about it...

*shocked* But they're on your SIDE!

Who cares what side they are on? Anyone who is going to get me killed is an enemy as far as I'm concerned, and these guys are going to make me commit suicide if they carry on like this.

...I know it's not their fault they're young and cheerful, and I wish I could be too. Don't worry, I won't really harm them. I can wait 'till their next mission for some of them to get killed or wounded, then things will be OK :)

Oh, it is lovely to make your acquaintance, M. Yossarian! I'm Jehan Prouvaire; just Jehan is fine. :) <-- it's a smiling face!

Oh dear...you seem to have...quite an interesting profession! I do not think I'd be able to handle being under so much pressure all the time. I tried my hand at fighting once, and was captured. Alas, it must not be my calling. :) I do hope you will enjoy it here. You seem quite an interesting person!

Typist: :D. That is all.

Interesting when you're not hundreds of feet up in the air with flack exploding all around you. And I don't want to handle the pressure. I recently tried to strangle my pilot...still feeling a bit guilty about that. You're alive, so you can't have been that bad at the art of war. I hope I enjoy it here too. No one has attacked me yet, so that's not bad.

Typist: ^_^ Thanks
