Lysistrate, here. I have had a lot more free time on my hands since the end of the Peloponnesian war, so my typist signed me up for this. You seem like an interesting lot of barbarians people. If anyone ever wants help making a political speech, administering an impromptu oath, or coming up with a creative scheme to facilitate peace between ( Read more... )

administering an impromptu oath...

Typist: OMG, we played Lysistrata in drama class when I was in 12th grade. I love you.

It was the only way to make sure everyone would cooperate. Even then, we had some waverers. (Such as that slender matron who suddenly became pregnant with something that looked *remarkably* like a bronze helmet under her tunic.)

Oh, definitely. Oaths are most useful in that respect. Although mine went rather into the direction of war than into the direction of peace, but let us ignore that. The waverers are always there, and always causing trouble. I would have been most amused had Arafinwë come up with the pregnancy excuse, though. Most amused.

Hello, pleased to meet you. Can you come up with plans for revenge?

Hello, pleased to meet you as well. I don't have any particular experience in coming up with plans of vengeance, but I know of plenty of poems and legends and tragedies about the subject. Most of them end badly, but at least it could provide examples of what *not* to do.

Hi, welcome and such. And I am not a babarian, take it back or you're dead.
*Wrinkles nose* Peace? Who needs it?

*err* Of course, I never meant to call you a barbarian, my lady. An illustrious deity such as yourself hardly counts as "you people." My gravest apologies for expressing myself so clumsily. *note to self: find Sophist who accepts women as pupils - or at least a handbook of rhetoric*

Well... I'm not one to debate the Big Questions in the agora, certainly, but I must say that peace presents certain strong subjective attractions to those of us whose husbands and sons are going off and getting killed battling the Spartans. Whatever those comic poets say, some of us women *like* our male family members.
