Of Childe Roland

Hile, Gunslingers! I am Roland of Gilead, last of the Line of Eld. There are other worlds than these, said Sai King, and I can see I have found yet another. In some worlds I am only Sai King's creation, in his series of books called The Dark Tower, but some worlds belong to me, and to my friends, Eddie, Susannah, Jake, and Oy. Though I will ( Read more... )

Greetings, Lord Deschain. My typist, I believe, has fainted at your arrival. But she's a bit of a fangirl, so don't mind her. My name is Legolas.

What is ka? I am sure my typist knows, but as I said, she's a bit occupied at the moment.

Long days and pleasant nights, Legolas. I am quite curious about you and your contemporaries here--are you ka-tet? I do not believe your world is one I have visited yet.

Ka is a wheel. Specifically, ka is what you might call fate, or destiny. Everything that we are, everything that is--it is all up to Ka. We cannot escape it. My friend Eddie tells me I tend to harp on this subject, but what destiny has to do with stringed instruments, I couldn't say. "Ka? Kaka!" he says.

I had a ka-tet (if I understand my typist correctly, and that is a bit hard to tell. Right now she's rambling on about someone named Cuthbert...) but as of yet none of them have appeared here. Several others from my world have appeared here as well, but they were not part of my Fellowship.

Ka sounds like a very powerful force. Was it ever difficult for you, being driven by ka so?

I hope fate sees fit to reunite you with your Fellowship. Though death may not break the bonds of khef, nothing is ever quite the same afterward.

Was it ever difficult for you, being driven by ka so?

*shrugs* One cannot consider "difficult" in matters of ka. One either tries to resist or accepts his fate. Either way, ka does as ka wills. I admit, there have been...trying times during my quest. I have lost many friends over many years. How many years I no longer remember myself.

Your typist understands much. Cuthbert ((ohmigan!!11!!'Bert!!!SQUEEE!!)). Ahem. I apo--apologize. Cuthbert was one of those friends. ;_;

Welcome Mr. Roland. My typist wishes to say hello as well, and also wishes to inform you that she loves the story you are in very much. She pays no attention to me, but always has her nose in the book. My name is Glinda, Good Witch of Oz. Pleased to meet you sai sir. My typist has been taking over my conversation way too much these days.

My typist is much the same, I fear. I think she has forced me into this more for her gratification about meeting her favorite characters than for my pleasure. And she edits my comments too much, which is why this one is completely struck through. It doesn't seem fair.

*taps his throat in greeting* Thankee-sai, Glinda. I really can't object to your typist's respectful greeting, especially when my scribe tells me what efficient use typists make of precious paper. And as there seem to be so few steadfast women around these parts, perhaps you might tell her that I should not turn away a lady's company, if she'd be so inclined.

Welcome, sir. My name is Elphaba Thropp (perhaps you've heard of me... I am known by the ignorant masses as "The Wicked Witch of the West"... rubbish, I tell you). I am afraid that neither my typist nor I are familiar with your story, but we both look forward to hearing it.

Forgive me, good woman. Your odd moniker gave me start. I was reminded suddenly of Rhea of the Cöos, the bitchiest bitch that ever there was a witch from my past. I am sure you are nothing at all like her. *eyes you warily* One can hardly separate fact from fiction in fools' yarns, you know.

I can assure you most wholeheartedly that I am not a bitch. At the most, I just have a bit of a temper. Don't go believing those vicious lies that have been spread about me.

Take comfort, lady. I would never leave the matter of my trust for someone else's judgment.

Typist: Not sure if Roland is even that active anymore, but Jake insisted

Hello, Roland. It's me... it's Jake!
