Of Childe Roland

Hile, Gunslingers! I am Roland of Gilead, last of the Line of Eld. There are other worlds than these, said Sai King, and I can see I have found yet another. In some worlds I am only Sai King's creation, in his series of books called The Dark Tower, but some worlds belong to me, and to my friends, Eddie, Susannah, Jake, and Oy. Though I will ( Read more... )

Greetings, Lord Deschain. My typist, I believe, has fainted at your arrival. But she's a bit of a fangirl, so don't mind her. My name is Legolas.

What is ka? I am sure my typist knows, but as I said, she's a bit occupied at the moment.

Long days and pleasant nights, Legolas. I am quite curious about you and your contemporaries here--are you ka-tet? I do not believe your world is one I have visited yet.

Ka is a wheel. Specifically, ka is what you might call fate, or destiny. Everything that we are, everything that is--it is all up to Ka. We cannot escape it. My friend Eddie tells me I tend to harp on this subject, but what destiny has to do with stringed instruments, I couldn't say. "Ka? Kaka!" he says.

I had a ka-tet (if I understand my typist correctly, and that is a bit hard to tell. Right now she's rambling on about someone named Cuthbert...) but as of yet none of them have appeared here. Several others from my world have appeared here as well, but they were not part of my Fellowship.

Ka sounds like a very powerful force. Was it ever difficult for you, being driven by ka so?

I hope fate sees fit to reunite you with your Fellowship. Though death may not break the bonds of khef, nothing is ever quite the same afterward.

Was it ever difficult for you, being driven by ka so?

*shrugs* One cannot consider "difficult" in matters of ka. One either tries to resist or accepts his fate. Either way, ka does as ka wills. I admit, there have been...trying times during my quest. I have lost many friends over many years. How many years I no longer remember myself.

Your typist understands much. Cuthbert ((ohmigan!!11!!'Bert!!!SQUEEE!!)). Ahem. I apo--apologize. Cuthbert was one of those friends. ;_;

I could not help noticing your comment about lost friends, my lord. It appears we two have much in common. Of course, my folly was due to the presence of an unshakable curse as opposed to an obsessive, self-perpetuated quest, but the details hardly matter.

Indeed, sai. I'm sure Gwindor and Finduilas would be most comforted by that nugget. Are you trying to corner the market on gruff-but-noble masculinity?

Haven't I already?

You are a very wise man. It seems that I have much in common with you, and have experienced much the same during my own trials. What must be done must be done, whether or not one would wish it so or not. I too, have lost many friends, and perhaps they will appear here. As perhaps yours shall. There is always the possibility.

(('Bert could be my ka-mai any day! ^_^))

-sighs- I apologize as well. It seems my typist has no sense of decency.

*sigh* Strange children, these scribes are. If only they were gunslingers-in-training. I'd whip them for it teach them their lessons.

That is a scary thought, however, entrusting them with such weapons.

You'd be surprised. I've seen many a young fool become a gunslinger...with discipline.

I think the mention of the harp has left my typist impaired. Poor girl, she sees the word and gets confused. As have you on the meaning over it. If I remember correctly, to harp upon something means to dwell on the subject. That is what I am getting from the half-conscious part of my typists mind.

Thank you. I do get confused about these otherworld sayings from time to time.

Oh it was an honor to fix the problem to this word. Please ignore my typists meaning of it. She thinks the word "harp" sometimes refers to the same thing you were confused about, the stringed instrument. She plays it you see, and well...she just gets confused. Must be the loud noises whilst she plays.

A fangirl? Mistress, you speak in a vernacular I am not aware of. Squee? Fangirl? Should such words be added to the Oxford Dictionary, alert me at once.
