Sibyl Vane

*timidly* Hello?

I am Sibyl Vane... I am new here, as you can see, and... and this, I suppose, is my introductory letter.

Well, what is there to say about myself? I am Sibyl Vane, as I said. I'm seventeen years old, and an actress in London, where I live with my mother.

And I heard that my Prince Charming was here...

Oh dear God in heaven no.

How are you, Sibyl? Last I heard you were quite deceased. It is so nice to see your familiar face. I do hope that horrid sliding back in your acting was only temporary though either way, I don't think that'll make me let go of my grudge against you.

Oh, Dorian!

I am... I am marvelous, now! I was dead, I think, but that seems rather peculiar. I've played dead so often in the theatre, I'm not certain whether this was real or just another performance.

I have a very bad feeling about this.

Oh, um, hello Miss Vane. I don't believe we've ever met, but I have heard a lot about you...

You might not want to mention that... There's a person who's really named Prince Charming here. He's rather... not charming.

Hello, sir. Prince Charm--I mean, Dorian--mentioned you once or twice, however.

A real Prince Charming? From fairy tales? Oh, how perfectly lovely! What do you mean, he's not charming?

Oh, I remember you! We haven't met, of course, but I did see you perform once. Dorian wanted so much for Basil and I to come and see you as Juliet. As I recall it was dreadful, but you had a certain sort of charm anyhow-- or at least you were very beautiful, which is nearly the same thing.

Welcome to the community, Miss Vane. I daresay you'll find life interesting here.

*timid look* Oh, dear, I was rather awful that night, wasn't I... Dorian was rather upset with me. *bites her lip* Very upset, actually.

Thank you, sir. I imagine I shall.

*pleasantly* Yes, he was rather unhappy about the whole thing. But you mustn't make yourself upset over it, Miss Vane. I think you dealt with the situation admirably, in the end. And I think bad actresses are far more interesting than good ones-- not when performing, of course, but when they are offstage. They always have stories to tell.

Admirably? I... I killed myself, sir. That is hardly admirable. And I am a good actress. I was, at least. And I could be again.

Oh, hello, dear. I do believe I remember reading something in the papers about you. How unbearably tragic you must be!

It's lovely to meet you, I'm sure, as I do just love threatre.

You may know of my husband, if only because he stole your boytoy.

*flushes slightly* I...I suppose tragic is the word for it. I had tried not to think of it in terms of, of a play...

Is that why Dorian was so cold to me yesterday, then? He has found... your husband, did you say??

*pats her shoulder* Ah. Well, I am sure you're quite darling when not acting, as well.

...ah. *coughs* Yes, dear. Perhaps it is best for you to here this now.

*softly* I'd like to think there was more to me than my acting.

*palely* I saw him with Mr. Campbell yesterday... I think I...know what you're speaking of.
