Because he can't find another way to get in touch with Lestat besides returning to the Villa where he spoke to Marius (and Louis won't consider that), he writes a note and leaves it on the mansion's cork board. This was what Marius instructed him to do when he needed him, so he supposes that someone would pass the note to Lestat.

He settles himself in the main room, and sets to waiting for Louis to come to him rather than seeking him out.

He makes no move to follow Lestat, should he go, understanding that this was their time. He hardly wishes to intrude on it. Not only that, but he knows Lestat intends to keep his distance -- he isn't going to make that harder.
