You would really only notice the new person if you spent quite a lot of time in the woods -- or the gardens. It's true, she is more used to the Underthing, the passages and hallways under the University, but trees are as good a cover as anything. Especially when you don't like the open sky. But if a person happened to be out and about, even in ( Read more... )

Jaenelle goes walking at night.

Standing outside by the gardens, her head turns, and she hesitates, and then goes to sit on a bench, not too far from where Auri is but not too close either.

"Awfully cold out," she says, to the air, listening attentively.

Auri peers down from the tree she is currently ensconced in, watching Jaenelle very carefully. If Jaenelle's paying attention, she'll hear a slight rustle, maybe a few stray dead leaves falling off a branch.

Jaenelle is definitely paying attention, but she doesn't look around, a little smile touching the corners of her mouth, and tilts her head back, humming something briefly. "...I hope no one's out here by themselves," she notes.

She leans down to catch the humming, listens intently. After a few moments, she scrambles down from the tree and creeps closer, to see if Jaenelle will hum any more.

Kvothe has been known to wander off on occasion and the blonde catches his eye. It's a very familiar shade and he follows it, and maybe he catches a glimpse of her face... but he's not entirely certain yet, so he keeps moving in her direction, slow but steady and humming to himself loud enough to carry.

The humming is very familiar. So familiar, in fact, that Auri steps out from behind a tree to see who it is. When she sees Kvothe, she smiles and moves behind him to tug at his sleeve, with a very soft giggle.

He looks over his shoulder and smiles fondly at her. He's older than she'll expect, much older, and it shows. The smile eases it, though. "Hello, Auri."

She stands on her tiptoes to inspect him, looking serious, and touches his cheek. "You got big. Did you unlock something?"

Walking outside, Bast wheels on his toes at the small sound, eyes getting very blue and wary. He takes a light step in that direction, eyes searching for what made the sound, tensed, nostrils flaring slightly.

Auri squeaks a little and ducks into a sizeable nest of bushes. You're welcome to look in them,Bast, but she moves quick.

He's looking at them instead. And frowning. He settles back on his heels and stares at the bushes.

She stares back, because at least it's mildly safe in the bushes. There's no one with her, anyway, and nothing too open.

Rose peers at her curiously during one of her walks around the grounds, her voice gentle as she says, "Excuse me?"

Auri turns and darts off, somewhere in the darker parts of the woods. There's no offense meant, Rose, but she doesn't like people much. Unless, of course, you're Kvothe.

There's a pair of little boys who are busy maintaining a snow castle. One of the walls fell, and it's not really acceptable, so they are working in serious silence at putting their fortress together.

They are, at least in appearance, completely heedless to Auri's presence.

Auri is watching intently from a convenient tree. She's not moving, not making any sound, but she is definitely watching.

One of the boys starts singing softly in Sindarin - the other looks up, grumps something that is barely audible, and starts making the harmonies. Both of them are working in seeming peace.

They agreed that they didn't want that scary ice woman to come and put them to work - which she said she would, should she find them fighting.

If the boys aren't paying too much attention, they might find a snowball landing slightly near their fort. It's meant to help, not scare them, but Auri is carefully hiding behind the tree trunk now.
