A wolf and her boy

Jan 17, 2009 02:23

They were just walking in the woods, but when they started the snow had been melting and grey, it shouldn't be getting thicker as they went. The air seemed to be getting colder as well, and the enormous brindled trellwolf bitch walking with him presses into his side to keep the young man warm. He puts an arm around her high shoulders, burying his ( Read more... )

Anita comes padding from the woods - she's in leopard shape, because yes, she went sniffing around for Draugluin's pack, from a safe distance. She wanted to know how many of them were around, at the very least, and also to trace back what happened to Mildmay.

In the process she hunted a little something down, and so it's a sated and focused leopard that comes out of the forest, and pauses.

Damn. Another wolf, and one she doesn't know. Damn. Damn. Damn. She's observing the young man. He doesn't seem to fear the wolf, on the contrary. Just observing, for now. Anita's in a funny mood, these days.

Viradechtis turns, looking straight at the leopard and moving between her and Isolfr. He grabs nervously at her scruff, eyeing the cat uncertainly. He's not nearly so familiar with leopards as wolves but he knows what they are, that they are dangerous, and that he doesn't want his sister getting into a fight with an unfamiliar predator when they don't even know where they are. She growls a little and he murmurs to her soothingly hoping the other annimal doesn't attack.

What happens next might be a bit of a surprising - the leopard speaks, since there`s a human around.

"I don't eat people. I'm not that kind of cat. Thank you very much." She doesn't move from her observation point. "And besides, I have pack, and it includes two wolves. So lay off the 'tude."

They're both surprised to hear her speak, even with their bonds and the pack sense the trellwolves cannot speak in words, and he's never heard of anything besides the wolves bonding with men anyway, and he hadn't thought cats were pack type animals anyway but that's just grasping for some sort of normality in the face of wtf talking cat. Viradechtis stops growling briefly, bewildered, and Isolfr says very intelligently, "...What?"

The pair of little elflings was just out taking some cold (not fresh) air, and talking to their little pack - it's reduced, now, what with hibernation, but there are still plenty little squirrels to talk to them. The little beasts still, and the boys frown.

"That's big pack." But they're not afraid.

He's surprised to see small children out alone in this weather, but he nods. "Yes, she's very big." Viradechtis sniffs in their direction and nudges Isolfr a little, confused by their scent. Like man, more than wolf or troll anyway, but not man. He strokes her large head reassuringly but can't explain it. "Can you tell me who is Jarl, here?" Jarl meaning lord, he assumes it must be someone's land even though his sister can catch no scent of any kind of town.

"Jarl?" They frown. "What's a Jarl? We don't know that language." One attempts a guess. "A king, or something?"

"I suppose?" Not know the language? Where could they have come from that they don't know the language? "Who is the leader, here?"

Firekeeper stands up in the middle of the floor, stiff legged, a growl rumbling in her throat, and pads to the door. And stops, looking very much up at Viradechtis, who is more than twice her size. Hackles up, nervous and focused on the wolf rather than the person, Firekeeper stays where she is, knowing she doesn't have a chance, but if the strange wolf is dangerous...

The trellwolf growls a little, her stance not agressive but dominant, demanding submission from the smaller wolf and assuming that it will be given. Isolfr doesn't interfere, men let the wolves sort out their own rankings. It's better that way.

Firekeeper hesitates, glances at her human, and then lowers her ears and her tail, but not too much. Just allowing that she understands who has superiority.

It's not quite good enough for Viradechtis, she growls more loudly, looming over Firekeeper. Isolfr continues standing back, a little worried.

Because everyone needs a little more confusing in their life, yes they do. Jaenelle looks up from her books and blinks once, and then stands and smiles, at both of them, really, tilting her head in her curious little Jaenelle manner. "Hello," she says, brightly, and probably as much if not more to Vardechtis. Jaenelle likes wolves.

"Hello," Isolfr says, and Viradechtis sits, eyeing Jaenelle curiously. There's something about Jaenelle's scent that the wolf can't quite figure out. If Jaenelle is paying attention she'll likely catch the scent of sun-warmed pine bows in the summer. Their real names are scents, and that's Viradechtis's.

She's paying attention, and considers that, head tilting, looking thoughtful a moment. "--and welcome," she adds, more for Isolfr's benefit than Viradechtis, attention still primarily on the latter.

"Thank you." Isolfr rests a hand on his sister's head behind her ears, the wolf just continues watching Jaenelle, ears pricked. "Can you please tell us where we are?"

Mercedes opens the door and blinks. "...that is a very large wolf," she says, intelligently, and blinks once. Not a werewolf. Just. Very, very large.

She shakes herself. "Uh - welcome."

"Yes, she is," Isolfr says. She is, even for trellwolves. "Don't worry," he says, aware that people who don't have a lot of contact with trellwolves might be afraid. "She's really very friendly."

Her mouth twitches in a smile. "Yeah, I figured she wasn't going to bite my head off if she was with you," almost dryly. "Just a bit of a surprise."

"Yeah, a lot of people aren't used to the trellwolves." He scratches his sister's ears, silently urging her to sit next to him, which she does. "She wouldn't attack a person."
