A wolf and her boy

They were just walking in the woods, but when they started the snow had been melting and grey, it shouldn't be getting thicker as they went. The air seemed to be getting colder as well, and the enormous brindled trellwolf bitch walking with him presses into his side to keep the young man warm. He puts an arm around her high shoulders, burying his ( Read more... )

Because everyone needs a little more confusing in their life, yes they do. Jaenelle looks up from her books and blinks once, and then stands and smiles, at both of them, really, tilting her head in her curious little Jaenelle manner. "Hello," she says, brightly, and probably as much if not more to Vardechtis. Jaenelle likes wolves.

"Hello," Isolfr says, and Viradechtis sits, eyeing Jaenelle curiously. There's something about Jaenelle's scent that the wolf can't quite figure out. If Jaenelle is paying attention she'll likely catch the scent of sun-warmed pine bows in the summer. Their real names are scents, and that's Viradechtis's.

She's paying attention, and considers that, head tilting, looking thoughtful a moment. "--and welcome," she adds, more for Isolfr's benefit than Viradechtis, attention still primarily on the latter.

"Thank you." Isolfr rests a hand on his sister's head behind her ears, the wolf just continues watching Jaenelle, ears pricked. "Can you please tell us where we are?"

"The Mansion," she says, kind of absently. "It's its own place, outside of anywhere else, so far as I can tell. That's as close as I can get."

"...But...that doesn't make any sense." The wolf cocks her head, picking up on her brother's confusion.

She blinks and focuses on him, grimacing. "I know it doesn't."

"But...we have to get home. If we don't..." He thinks of the Wolfheall, the town still under reconstruction, his Wolfjarls arguing without him to mediate and his shieldbrothers wondering what's happened to him...

She looks unhappy. "I'm...sorry, I wish I could help, really.

Isolfr looks shaken, confused and upset. Viradechtis nuzzles him, large head pressing into his stomach, and he wraps his arms around her, rubbing her ears. She whines as she understands what the humans are talking about, no pack. "But..."

"I'm still looking. And some people find a way out."

"...Only some?" He looks anxious, and would probably look a little pale if he wasn't so pale to begin with.

A sigh. "Only some."

"...Why?" It doesn't seem like it should be possible. He listens again, reaching for the pack sense and still not finding it.

"Some have...abilities," she says, carefully, "I don't know anyone who can leave."

The thought of never being able to get home again gives him a cold and ill feeling in the pit of his stomach, Viradechtis whines and huddles against him. "What...kind of abilities?" Focusing on the part that's easier to think about.
