(Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be any more of King Arthur’s children unaccounted for…)

Goewin is looking for Lleu.

She is Arthur and Guinevere’s daughter, Lleu’s twin sister and his senior by a few scant minutes. She’s not sure whether she’ll find him alive or dead-or worse, some terrible state in between-and she may be so fixed on ( Read more... )

"My lady?" Melou has a sword, for his part, although it's starting to rust over in places (don't tell Gawain). His hand goes immediately to the hilt thereof, a reflex, and he looks at her uncertainly. "Wherefore--Mother of God, do you be careful."

Melou is a coward, but not stupid, and fully willing to believe that she could kill him if she tried. Ergo caution.

"What, how can he? Is he here? But you said--"

"I told you I am dead. So is my brother, but he is here. I thought it was a place where the dead came, but there are others here who have not died and I do not know why they are here."

His thin and shaking body in her arms seems very much alive. She lets him go.

"I do not understand why I'm here, either, because I don't think I am dead. But maybe you are to warn me. How does the battle start? Why do you go armed? What do you do here?"

She looks at him again. "Ah, don't answer. It upsets you terribly to think of it. What were you on your way to do, before I set on you with my spear? Please tell me Lans-- Lanslet? is not still hunting you, that you're not running from him always."

T: maybe it's the icon. His woeful self just *melts* me. I want to take him home and give him some Playmobil.

"He's not here. I haven't seen him here. I thought he must live." Melou looks down. "I live with my mother here. She's younger than she was and my lord hath left her. My brother hath been broken by the war's end and I only displease him. My lord--I fear him and I do not think he hath any love for me." He draws a quiet breath. "Forgive me. I always speak too freely."

our evil plan to take over the world is complete....! I love his faces. You should see his smiley face! Someday! if he ever has a reason to use it!

"You are forgiven, boy. Melou." She really wants to call him "child," though she suspects he is older than she is.

"I haven't told you my name, have I? I am Goewin. Artos is my father. Medraut... that is maybe your father, maybe not. He is my half-brother. I have come after him in defiance and anger, because he is holding my twin's life to ransom. But maybe neither of them are here. And maybe some other fate waits us back in Camlan."

"Medraut is the old name, but he is called that sometimes. I know where he lives." He looks up at her, stricken. "Mother of God, is that betrayal? Am I to offer his life to you in exchange?"

"I did think of it," she says softly. "I swear, I did think it."

"I do not think he would give you aught for me."

"I--"

she gives a little sob, surprising herself.

"God help me, boy, I did not mean it."

"--Do you hear yourself? Do you know understand what you just said? You have just offered your life for your father's."

She takes a breath. "You think he despises you, and you offered yourself anyway."

"I would do aught in the world to give him pleasure of me."

"Aye, that is what your father always said of Artos. To what end such devotion?"

She is aching with pity.
