Oh hey another German!

May 08, 2008 21:02

Robert doesn't much care for Sunday Mass. It's boring and his knees always hurt afterwards from all the kneeling, but his parents always insist that's good for him so Robert goes willingly. His parents can't be wrong can they?

Anyway, he is on  his knees, praying like a good boy and when he opens his again he is shocked to find entirely different ( Read more... )

This would be Martha, who is pleasantly surprised. "Why, hello, Robert!" she says cheerily, who does not find it strange to see him suddenly kneeling before her.

Robert looks up from the shoes that had appeared in front of his eyes moments before. "Martha?" he asks, his voice cracking a little. Of all the people to appear before him, it just so happens to be the one girl he's grown so fond of! He scrambles to his feet, already feeling his face flush.

"What's happening?" he asks, confused, "I could have sworn that I was in the church and praying like I was told but now I'm here! Is this a dream?"

"Perhaps," says she, shrugging one shoulder, "though it would be terribly strange if we were all having the same vision. I believe you're the last one to join us, Robert!"

"You mean the others... They're all here, too?" Robert asked, still highly confused, "How did we get here?"

"Robert?"

To be perfectly honest, Wendla is a little wary about another old friend coming to join them, considering how all the rest of them have turned out. But, ever the optimist, she looks down at him kneeling with a smile.

"What are you doing on the floor?"

"Wendla!" Robert said, shocked. His face turned white as he saw the girl who not long ago passed away from anemia. Or so he thought. "Wendla, is that really you? Am I... too?"

She blinks at him. You see, she can't recall ever dying. The last she remembers is being told she was pregnant. Yet so many people are convinced she was dead.

"Am I what? Oh. You too, then? You think I'm dead?"

Robert stares at Wendla, a little dumbstruck.

"Mother and Father said..." but the girl before him certainly doesn't look dead. "I'm sorry, I guess I'm just confused. I thought I was in church! And then, suddenly, here I am!"

Otto, for his part, is pleased to see another boy from school. Maybe he'll finally have someone to be his big pimpin' partner in crime!

"Well, hello there Robert."

Robert jumps to his feet excitedly at the sight of his old friend.

"Otto!" he grins, "Otto, where are we? I thought that I was praying in the church but now I'm here and it's all very confusing!"

"Er... in a mansion. The Mansion, actually. I'm not sure on much else, though."

"The Mansion?" Robert asks, still confused, "Otto, is this a dream? Surely it must be! I've fallen asleep during church, haven't I?"

T: Have a non-German?

Kay is, while not exactly patrolling, making a more systematic exploration of the Mansion, and has thus seen a good number of odd things. But Robert might need help, so he says gruffly, "You hurt, boy?"

Robert peers up at the rather intimidating man with a look of slight terror.

"I don't think so, sir?" he replies nervously.

"Well that's good. What're you prayin' for?"

"... My parents told me to," Robert replies honestly, "But they don't appear to be around anymore."

Ernst wants to like Robert. He seems like a very nice boy. But -- he can't help being a little jealous of the way he saw Hanschen looking at him a time or two.

But nevertheless, he smiles politely and gives a little wave. "Hallo, Robert!"

Robert looks around him, terribly confused.

"Ernst!" he exclaims, scrambling to his feet and grabbing Ernst by the shoulders, "Ernst, what is going on here? I swear I was in church just moments before! But, now..."

This is distressing.

"Er -- yes -- " Ernst blinks, rather startled by being grabbed, quite suddenly. His smile falters and his hands flail a little by his sides. "That's rather what happened to all of us. But I shouldn't worry too much. It's quite a nice place to be! And practically everyone's here -- except the teachers, and our parents, and such."

"... No parents?" Robert asks, a little scared by the idea. "But who tells us what we should do?"
