He glances up, very serious. "Have you lost something?"

The typist, who has a considerably worse grasp of Latin, will simply assume that Palomides replies in the language. "Quests, naturally. There is a shameful lack of them, for a magical house such as this."

"Are you in that line of work? Questing, that is?"

The Monster walks up, cautiously as ever, trying its best not to be seen which, uh, it's a hulking misshapen beast, so no, to try to read the sign.

"Very good!" exclaims Palomides. "Are you a woebegone soul, by any chance?"

It has read the sign, and is astonished that the man has not made to slay it yet! A woebegone soul? Dear man, I am not assured that I even truly have a soul! Ah, what torture it is, to be a non-woebegone soul! To be a monster, imperiling all about!

"Oh, a monster. Are you here to sign up for a quest, then?" After the strange incidences of the Questing Beast, Palomides is rather more sanguine about alternative roles for monsters in quests.

A sharp, barking laugh from Spade. "You like running your head into steel walls, then?"

Mildly, "Your pardon, sir?"

He shrugs. "First day I got here, I got a couple missing person cases. One finally showed up on his own, then left again. The other I found once, then lost again almost immediately. Can't find people don't want to be found, in this nuthouse."

Still mild, "Items, then?"

Caliban looks at the sign and snorts. "Why would you want to do anything involving monsters or peril? I had enough of that at home."

"Ah--! An experienced quester!" He sounds absolutely delighted.

Caliban just - blinks at Palomides for a moment. "Quester?...um, I don't know about that. Just a knack for getting into shit."

sir_palomides April 28 2008, 02:05:41 UTC
"The very definition of a good quester. There is far more of shit, as you so aptly term it, than anything else."
