Shaken

Though he has cleaned up the blood, Richard is still not wearing a jacket, sleeves rolled up to the elbows. He looks pale, tired, and a bit haunted. He's looking for Curio, Ganymede, and/or Tom, roughly in that order, but is free to be accosted by anyone else who should come across him. He's had a long night.

Ganymede is in his room still, should Richard come looking that far.

He relaxes visibly, but prompts, "Ay, and?"

He looks down. "She did have her child."

[dukes_daughter]

"Wast sickly?" gently, presuming from his expression that all didn't go quite right.

[jarndyceheir]

"Is dead," he says, very quietly.

[dukes_daughter]

For a moment, he just stares. After a moment he remembers himself, but he can think of nothing but, "O, sir!" So he lays a (hot, slightly shaky) hand on Richard's arm instead.

"Lord, Ganymede... she should have had a real doctor."

[dukes_daughter]

"Nay, sir. Such things do pass. That she yet lives is credit to thee." Ganymede is still half stunned by the news, and very, very glad for the excuse not to think deeply about it.

[jarndyceheir]

"I don't even know if I did anything to help. Maybe she'd have lived on her own."

[dukes_daughter]

"Then thou didst no harm, which is more still than many surgeons can."

[jarndyceheir]

"I suppose." He sighs. "I left her resting."

[dukes_daughter]

He nods. "She shall be well, I am sure."

[jarndyceheir]

"As shall you."

[dukes_daughter]

"O, ay! Thou needst not worry for me."

[jarndyceheir]

"I will, but not greatly, you'll pardon me."

[dukes_daughter]

"I shall, though there is no need for't."
