Getting Rid of Stuff.

Jun 14, 2007 23:26

Once again a table at the Mansion has been commandeered and spread with gowns and frocks and dresses, in all sorts of material and patterns and colours; some with beading and some with embroidery and some with lace, what you will, all carefully and exquisitely made. It's something she can do well.

As usual, a sign is out. DRESES. FORE FRIE.

Kyllikki can't read, but she loves beautiful things, so she looks over the gowns on the table with wide eyes, reverent fingers on the beads and lace and embroidery.

Zara eyes her for a moment, and comes up beside her, laying her hand on the one Kyllikki is inspecting. "Y'want it?"

"Oh ..." She looks up through her lashes at Zara. "May I? I can't pay you ..."

A rough shrug. "Nothing t'do with pay if y'did."

Ganymede gives the table a glance as he passes. ...maybe a slightly longer glance than one would expect a young man to give (--but they're so pretty and some part of Rosalind really can't resist at least looking. Just for a second).

Let one never say Zara was fazed by this sort of thing. She raises her eyebrows at him--yeah?

He reddens a little and edges a few steps away, looking very nonchalant.

Safie pauses to look at the dresses, meaning to stay only a few minutes, but then lingers. Only her eyes can be seen over the top of her veil, but the look in them is clearly admiring.

An audience customer!

Zara looks at her from across the table, and finally pushes one forward to her. "That's your colour."

She blushes faintly in surprise and shakes her head. "I -- I cannot," she manages, in her thickly accented English. And unlike some of the others, Safie has an excuse not to understand, as the only language other than Arabic she reads is French, and that not particularly well.

Hm. She gestures from the dress to Safie. "Pretty. Yours." And offers it.

And here's Molly, who cannot read at all either, but cannot resist the beauty of these gowns. "Oh," she breathes, appreciatively, not much else to say.

Why is she always having to prompt these people? Honestly. (Why is is that she always plans to put the dresses down and leave, and always ends up staying? Stupid, stupid--but this is really her work, and she really means it.)

She moves to Molly to help.

Molly looks up at Zara with a look that is half happiness, half want. "These dresses are almost too fine to touch. Is your ladyship selling 'em?"

"Getting rid of them, that's what I'm doing." She inspects Molly for a moment, and then pulls one forward and holds it against her, looking at the colour and cut.

Rina sidles up to the table, not exactly hiding, but trying not to draw attention to herself. She lightly touches one of the dresses, a pale pink cotton frock, just with the very tips of her fingers, smiling.

Oh oh oh it's Rina.

She edges over. "Y'like that one?"

She beams, a smile containing all her laughter without making a sound. "I do! It looks like spring in cloth."

"That don't make any sense."
