Getting Rid of Stuff.

Jun 14, 2007 23:26

Once again a table at the Mansion has been commandeered and spread with gowns and frocks and dresses, in all sorts of material and patterns and colours; some with beading and some with embroidery and some with lace, what you will, all carefully and exquisitely made. It's something she can do well.

As usual, a sign is out. DRESES. FORE FRIE.

And here's Molly, who cannot read at all either, but cannot resist the beauty of these gowns. "Oh," she breathes, appreciatively, not much else to say.

Why is she always having to prompt these people? Honestly. (Why is is that she always plans to put the dresses down and leave, and always ends up staying? Stupid, stupid--but this is really her work, and she really means it.)

She moves to Molly to help.

Molly looks up at Zara with a look that is half happiness, half want. "These dresses are almost too fine to touch. Is your ladyship selling 'em?"

"Getting rid of them, that's what I'm doing." She inspects Molly for a moment, and then pulls one forward and holds it against her, looking at the colour and cut.

Molly's eyes widen a bit. "Aye, truly?"

Snort. "I don't need them. I look like it?" And, indeed, she doesn't; tiny and far too thin and dressed all in black.

And Molly is tall and brown, and all curves, especially as she's becoming pregnant enough to show. She reaches out to touch a green embroidered gown. "They're all lovely, my lady."

"That's close t'your colouring, that one." She puts the other one down and takes the green one up. "Think it'd fit you all right, too. Might have to take it out a little."

She laughs a bit. "Aye, as is, I'd not be surprised. But it is a beautiful gown."

A little shrug. "I can do that, if y'want. Not much work."

"Aye?" Molly looked, uncharacteristically, the smallest bit shy. "I'm not sure how ta pay, in a place like this."

"Told you. I'm getting rid of them. I don't want them."

"Aye, but... the time to take it out? You'd be wanting some sort of repayment, wouldn't you?" Molly's not used to the idea of things for free, in general, and is more worried about being called a thief than anything.

"No. I got too much time. It's better using it up." She's all cold and tired inside; it's better to do this than think. Maybe it shows a little in her eyes. Her eyes look so old.

Molly is, in many ways, her perfect opposite; though not in the least innocent or naive anymore, there is a freedom and youth about her hard to dissipate, and she looks quite pleased at Zara's offer. "Well then, thank you, my lady. It really is lovely, lovely work."

Zara has died too many times for that. --and she shrugs again, pfff. "What I do."
