Edgar Huntly wakes in darkness, stark naked and with blood crusted on his chest--he has just ceased being a panther, and what had been to his animal self a safe den is to his human self a terrifying and all-too-familiar prison. Wolf-Firekeeper is padding through the forest when she smells something new: the scent of blood mingled with panther. She snarls and breaks into a lope, skidding to a halt when she finds a man who still smells like panther to her. She stares at him, bristling, and snarls, unsure what to do. Her wolf self wants to attack the strange panther, but her human self is wondering why in hell a human smells like a panther.

Firekeeper sits down and tilts her head, watching him. She curls her lip in a little snarl, but there's more puzzlement in it than anger. She gets up and pads a little closer, sniffing avidly.
