A request!

*strides into the main room looking determined*

Excuse me -- perhaps this isn't quite proper of me, but there isn't much a young lady can do that is proper under the circumstances, except possibly die of boredom -- but I must say, it has been awfully dull around here lately. Isn't there anyone thinking of throwing a ball or something of the sort? ( Read more... )

Arabella tries hard to hold back her laughter as she addresses the young lady, but cannot quite manage it. "We find ourselves of one mind, miss. Perhaps I could be of aid."

Oh, could you? I'm fit to go mad, if things go on like this!

*she offers a nod of the head* Mrs. Arabella Strange. I must confess myself out of the practice of entertaining, but perhaps I could attempt it, for the sake of relieving your boredom-- and, truly, my own.

*bobs a curtsy* Pleased to meet you, Mrs. Strange. My name is Mabel Chiltern. It does get awfully dull, doesn't it! At first it was terribly exciting just to be able to go walking on my own, but there's only so long that's interesting.

"I, too, I should dearly like it if I might help." Mary smiles brightly.

I'd be forever in your debt.

"Of course! Just tell me whatever I may do--perhaps I might ask my husband?"

I've not the faintest idea what ought to be done, yet, but -- oh, wouldn't it be terribly exciting to have a ball?

*looks up from her book* I have complete confidence that you would be perfectly capable of throwing a party yourself, if you have such an interest in them, Miss...

Oh, but I've never done anything of the sort, except for helping Gertrude with invitations--! And it would be terribly irregular for a young woman to be entertaining all on her own, wouldn't it?

One must start somewere, mustn't they? And perhaps it's a bit irregular - I don't know much about those things. But it could make your party a novelty, couldn't it? *this is Lucy's world. She really doesn't get it*

Oh, but at any party there must be gentlemen! And I could hardly go among gentlemen unchaperoned.

*sympathizes with the boredom, to a certain degree* Really, the best thing to do would be to throw the party yourself. I would help, though I don't think myself capable of doing it all alone.

I've really no idea how to go about it. *because Mabel? has never really done anything for herself*

Creating a guest list would be a good first step, but be careful not to send out invitations before you have a plan for refreshments and entertainment and such. *helpful! But still sarcastically, a bit*

Oh, yes -- I suppose that would be helpful, wouldn't it? *taking this perfectly seriously, and probably really hasn't thought of these things*

*sighs* Please, don't bother wasting your time with embroidery. Parties are wonderful, if done right, but, in the meantime, you might as well participate in something more interesting - an orgy, perhaps?

. . . I rather doubt my brother would approve of that.
