Excuse me -- perhaps this isn't quite proper of me, but there isn't much a young lady can do that is proper under the circumstances, except possibly die of boredom -- but I must say, it has been awfully dull around here lately. Isn't there anyone thinking of throwing a ball or something of the sort?

We'd all become horrifyingly practical, and there would be nothing at all that was trivial in the world, and it would be very boring and very depressing. So clearly I must find a distraction, and quickly!
