I am not shy with my opinion the the SCA is a dying organization, not dead but dying a somewhat slow death. Sometimes I think we have been taking certain things for granted for so long that what once was belief is now considered fact and in doing so we are being left behind as a re-enactment organization ( Read more... )

On Saturday Dec. 15th Rosie will be teaching a class on Soap making at our place in Paso Robles. Rosie will be teaching how to make soap from scratch, using lard/oil and lye. Everyone who attends the class will be able to bring some ready to use soap home as well as some soap to cure. Safety glasses are recommended as we will be working with lye, ( Read more... )

Just revived the news that a childhood friend of mine, a medic in the army recently took his own life. We were not especially close but we would help each other vent due to our similar lines of work and he helped me threw some tough times just by identifying with my horrors. I know money is tight for people right now, it is for us on the homestead as well. I recently put two knives up for auction so that I would have some money to get Rosie, Ivan and myself out to Erinwood Arts Salon I figured a week long auction for each, one to end two weeks prior to the event and another to end one week prior to the event. Saxon Village

So we have started on the first of the buildings for our Saxon village. I purchased the lumber and have cut the joints for the vertical supports and the horizontal beams. Everything has been drilled with a 1.5" bit and cleaned up to square with a chisel. In all we started with 14 4x4s, 7 for the verticals and 7 for the beams. It took longer for the ( Read more... )
