I am typing with my keyboard in my lap. My cat is mocking me from the desk, lying where the keyboard should be. In The Great Divorce, Lewis argued that both heaven and hell work retroactively. I don't know if I believe in heaven and hell, at least in the traditional sense. I do, however, believe in both God and love. God's love works retroactively. It is strong enough to transcend the present and to redeem those evils.

Today I read Kushner's "Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?" Pretending that I was reading it for fun and not for class, I allowed myself the comfort of an heirloom quilt and a cup of tea.
