Hand eye co-ordination

Ardeth is in the Gym, unusually he's left his sword behind but he's brought all ten of his knives anyway. It's been a while since he's practiced with these so he starts by simply feeling the wieght f them and tossing them from one hand to the other, before long he's started to juggle with them moving with the fluidity of long practice. Owen wanders around, keeping out of range of those knives. He's unwilling to settle to anything, in a snarky mood.

"Sorry mate. Interrupt your suicide attempt, did I?" he asks eventually, and then, "I can recommend a few easier ways to do it..."

Ardeth sighs "Fine, throw the throwing knife I gave you earlier" [now lets see how many films he's seen with knife throwing.]

Owen lifts his right arm, hurling it at the target with a wicked grin. He's a very poor judge of the strength needed to get it anywhere near, however, and he watches in dismay as the knife spins and takes a nose-dive to the ground.

He folds his arms, glad he can no longer blush. "First try. That didn't count."

Ardeth hands him another throwing knife wordlessly. It's so much fun letting students try and convince themselves that they can throw a knife without him.

Owen glares at the target, taking the knife with a grunt of thanks, psyching himself up. He brings his hand up to his shoulder like Ardeth, trying to get that flick of the wrist right.

With so little feeling in his hands, he wildly misjudges the distance and sends the knife spinning way past the target.

Ardeth hands him another knife. "Tell me when you get bored"

"Not till I get this. It's not just that I'm crap at it," he protests. "I can barely feel the damned thing in my hands!"

The third knife takes another nose-dive - and hits the very bottom of the target. It ends up on the floor, but it did hit. Owen stares at it in surprise. "Did you see that?" he asks, excited as a little kid. "I hit it!"

"Alright then, when your throwing it aim with your other hand and pull it back as you throw."

Owen nods, pulling back his left hand and throwing the next knife. He concentrates on the amount of force he used last time - so this one would have hit the target, if his aim was better. As it is, it hits the wall and he grimaces in frustration.

"Is that what you meant?" he asks, jogging over to collect the knives, calming himself down.

"Yes you want to put more force in it though you wan't it to travel as straight as possible, if you point with your other hand to where your aiming you won't be so far off."

Owen lays the knives back on a bench, leaning against the wall.

"Show me again?"

Ardeth shows the throw again in slow motion. His left arm points at the bulls eye his right gripping the blade between thumb and forefinger. As he brings the knife forward he pulls the other hand back before the knife hand fully extends he flicks his wrist with the knife in to that the forefinger points at the target.

Owen watches closely. "Okay. Right. Gotcha."

He picks up a knife and copies Ardeth's position. "If I was still alive it would help," he grumbles, almost to himself. "This - it's like wearing a really thick pair of gardening gloves, or something. I know something's in my hand, but not - like, what it feels like or how much force I'm gonna need to throw it. So I chuck it anyway and it goes all skew-wiff." He adjusts the blade between his fingers. If it cuts into him, Will's never going to believe it was an accident.

"This is so much bloody harder than it looks in the films..."

"Everything looks easier in films."

Owen sighs agreement, lining up his hands and the knife, hurling it at the target.

Damn. It falls short again.

"That would've hit it. It would. It would if it'd just been a bit closer..."

"Then take a step closer, There's no rush and it's better t get some idea of how hard you need to throw them before you try it at a distance."
