I'm finishing the first third of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series at the urging of a good friend.  It's very interesting.  Jordan created a fantasy world with many parallels to our own because, of course, you write what you know.  I like how he's managed to create shades of grey in his story.  Unlike Star Wars, where good guys showed their ( Read more... )

So, we have arrived in Managua - the "g" is pronounced very softly in Spanish, I have discovered - it's more like "Manah'wa" when it falls on the ear.  We are at the Hotel Estrella (the Hotel Stars) which is, at this current moment, having roadwork done out front.  Great.  Hopefully that won't leave the pool too dirty to use - I imagine it's nice ( Read more... )

One of the big issues in Western Christianity today, unfortunately, is the closing of congregations.  It's just a fact of life.  Congregations that were begun with great promise generations ago have reached the end of their tether - the world has changed, and they have been 'left behind,' and not in a Biblical sense!  Whereas for the longest time, ( Read more... )

As I sit here in my office, I am trying to update my cell phone.  I've hooked it up to my computer and told the program to update the software;  after a false start, it finally did, although it turned off the phone itself at the end and I couldn't seem to get it to reboot.  When it finally did reboot, something messed up in the accessibility ( Read more... )
