Darn Me Being A Jewelry Addict!

So Gran's birthday was back in late August, and all I sent her was a card. She had a major spinal surgery. And now I'm going to be visiting for Thanksgiving. Christmas is right around the corner. I wanted to find something for her. The problem is, she doesn't like much. She has no hobbies. No pass times. Nothing. I figured hey, she likes ( Read more... )

What do you make the person who doesn't want anything?

I get most of my jewelry through ebay. Good luck with your search.

Old(er) people are harder to shop for generally. If I can't think of anything at all, I just ask. It may seem cold, but I find most people are happier being asked and getting something they like than not being asked and having to pretend they love a gift they care nil for.

Either that or I'm just a very cynical person.

Or both.

The problem with that? "Oh, I don't want anything! Just the fact that you remembered is enough. Don't get me anything, okay? I don't want you wasting your money."

When I say it to others, it's usually genuine. With her, I'm not sure. I half feel like she's hoping, but turning it down because she knows what finances are like. Then again, even if I hound her and tell her she's got no choice, and she's getting a gift? She doesn't know what she wants, or wants nothing.

Ahhh... you poor thing. I've decided it's best never to start looking at things I like for other people's gifts! I have to have something for myself, and there goes the budget. tee-hee. Good luck finding something. How about a good book? :D

Gran's not a reader, unfortunately. She's not completely illiterate, but she's fairly close, sadly. So she can't get enjoyment out of reading. It's too much of a chore.

Music?? Does she like anything, classical, etc? They have a lot of cd's that you can find that are just big compilations of different groups/bands. Would that work?

She has most of the stuff she listens to already, and she doesn't listen to stuff often. She usually just turns on the oldies station, if she listens at all...

I posted like a month ago that I got my mom a bracelet. It was this: http://www.lakeside.com/details.asp?I=IM9&R=23565&Ntt=%3FIM9&N=36

and I put photos of each of her kids/their families and one of each grankid in it.

That's precious! I doubt she'd wear it, though. She wears one gold link bracelet, and that's it. Like I said, her jewelry rarely changes. I think the size of the bracelet might bother her. She only wears thin ones, and she has such trouble keeping a watch on.
