If you could put a list together of the top ten music venues for new, unsigned bands (as well as signed), in Denton, what order would you put which venues in and why?
It really depends on what you're grading it on. For instance, Haily's is awesome, good bands, etc, but I hate going there because the Drinks are so expensive. My Top five from back in the sara days:
1. Andys. It is what every hole in the wall bar/venue should be 2. Rubber Gloves 3. J&Js 4. Hailey's 5. The groovy Mule (which...doesn't exist anymore)
Note: Andy's used to be the place to play, but almost a year ago it went through some major staff changes, so their sound guy is clueless and their staff is a bunch of a-holes. I'd only recommend playing there if you are a metal band with a small audience
( ... )
I'd say it depends on the venue. In most cases you can find the best information by asking the people who work there who to talk to. Hailey's and Rubber Gloves have "procedures" listed on their websites on how to get your band booked. Hailey's goes through a larger company called Spune Productions sometimes, and RGRS used to do something like that, but i think now management just decides who plays.
I know at J&Js all you generally have to do is go talk with the manager, and she will check for openings on her calendar.
I don't know how bands play at Cool Beans, but I assume one could find out more info by going in, ordering a beer and burger, and asking the bartender who to talk to.
