The epic tragedy of Charles and Erik...

Jun 12, 2011 22:29

So I finally got around to seeing X-Men First Class. Finally. I've been meaning to go practically every night this week, but I finally made it.

And oh. Now I want to go and watch all the X-Men movies again. Well, I say all, the good ones. Namely 1 and 2. Forget about the monstrosity that was the third movie, and Hugh Jackman in denim and leather ( Read more... )

ships: charles/erik, movies: x-men

The third movie really was a monstrosity, wasn't it? I wasn't too crash hot on the second, either. The first was perfection. Really going to have to see First Class.

Oh, you must, you must! I loved the first movie like crazy - shipped Rogue/Wolverine like woah - and yeah, the second wasn't bad, the third...eesh, let us never speak of it. I really kind want them to just *handwave**reboot* the whole franchise, you know? And then we can do it all over again.

You're a Rogue/Wolverine shipper?!!? YAY and also HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS? I loved them like a wild thing, after that first movie. Still do. They were just incredible in that first movie. That scene on the train. Meeeeeep.

Oh, dude, yes! I think it was all kind of pre-LJ, if that makes sense, so I've never really mentioned it here, but OH YES. I have always had a thing for May/December relationships, and they had some serious chemistry going on in that movie. Plus, you know, she rolls up to his room in the middle of the night, she has him in her head, he gives her his dogtags, nearly dies to save her...

Ah. Good times. I used to devour the fanfic back in the day. I remember this one fic, damn, I can't remember what it was called, but it was this AMAZING AU, damn, I'm going to have to go find it now...

Oh my god, this is the movie I have been waiting for ALL MY LIFE since I saw those original movies. I mean, enemies who used to be BFFs and still totally care about each other even as they are trying to defeat each other? ONE OF MY VERY FAVOURITE TROPES. And then I always get my heart broken because secretly I am a sap who wants everyone to get their happy ending. -_-

As for fic, I strongly recommend... well, pretty much everything on 1stclass_kink (handily organised in a delicious account) and also not fic, but I have been very much enjoying Fuck Yeah, Charles and Erik on Tumblr.

Also you should especially read this fic from the kink meme, but only if you have seen the Sassy Gay Friend clips on youtube (if you haven't, just watch one, they're all pretty much the same hahaha).

Yay, links! Now I know how to occupy myself with my late stint at work tonight.

*beams*

Are they making a sequel? There's a part of me that really really wants a kind of handwave sequel where they just screw canon completely and have Charles and Erik realise that compromise is the best course and just end up as epic BFFs and lovers and take over the world calmly and peacefully.

It really depends how the film does, but whatsisface writer (director? fff idek) guy says he has something epic in mind if it gets greenlit.

ALSO YES THIS WOULD BE MY PREFERRED OPTION YES PLEASE.

It's the movie that ate my life, seriously. I didn't even expect to like it - Wolverine left me pretty much sour-faced, blah - but I'm smitten, literally smitten!

Oh, Wolverine was so so bad. Thankfully I have blotted most of the memories from my mind - all I recall now is Gambit in an alley, some weird fight on top of a collapsing tower and Hugh Jackman being half-naked.

But this movie, oh...so much better than I was expecting, because it really is all about Charles and Erik's epic love. It doesn't even pretend to be about anything else.

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. I saw the film with a friend of mine who just does not get slash at all (or most pairings, come to think of it) so could not do the whole OMG SO IN LOVE thing that I wanted to do.

I also came out of it wanting to watch X Men 1 particularly, and then got home to discover I only own X Men 2. SADFACE. I avoided Origins because of the stuff I read about it beforehand - I guess it is that bad?

I have been on delicious for fic - just go through everything on there. I can try to do a rec post for tomorrow, if you like?

Origins is, yes, really that bad. Hugh Jackman spends a large proportion of the movie half-naked, which does redeem it somewhat in my eyes, but still...bad. Not as bad as X-Men 3, but nonetheless...

But oh, Erik and Charles are so tragic and lovely. It broke my heart a wee bit, because argh, they're both wrong, you know? They're such extremes, and the real course is, like Charles said, between rage and serenity. You can't be too peaceful, like Charles, when they really are out to kill you, but you can't just kill everyone either. There's a middle course, and how awesome would they be if they took it together?

*sighs*

Well, I have it now, so I will switch my brain off and just look at Hugh Jackman.

Yes, it is heartbreaking, because they could obviously be so much more if they were willing to *give* a bit. And Erik just - *flails* - I rewatched X1 last night, and you can kind of (with a couple of glitches) see how he went from the guy in First Class to the guy in X1, and GAH. ERIK.

My rec post is up now btw :) Enjoy.
