I want to go to the beach...

I've been having beach cravings all day, I don't know why.

The thing is, I don't even really like going to the beach. Given a choice between chilling and sunbathing by a pool or at the beach, I'll pick the pool every time. I don't like hot sand or the way the sand gets everywhere or drying salt water on my skin and I hate the sensation of ( Read more... )

I love going to the beach but i hate the things you hate about the beach. I go to the beach because looking at the water, sky and sand relaxes me. For me, a few hours at the beach is better than 8 hours sleep.

Is there *anything* you do like about the beach?

Haha, well, I do like going to the beach. And I don't. I think maybe I like the concept more than the reality? I mean, all the things I don't like about it aren't enough to stop me enjoying myself whilst I was there, but they're enough that if there was an alternative I'd go for that. And I think the idea of spending a day sunbathing, going for a dip, just listening to the sound of the waves, is immensely appealing. So yes, perhaps it's the idea and the concept of it doesn't live up the reality to me. But it doesn't stop me hankering after it...

Plus to me, we're talking warm beaches here, holiday beaches - sun and sea and sand. Most British beaches are a very different thing altogether - much less sun, for a start. And you know, the whole Atlantic and North Sea issue. Usually shivering children turning blue and families huddling behind windbreaks insisting they're having fun...

So a resort by the beach with a pool would be perfect for you *g*

I love the ocean but don't like laying about on the beach. I take pleasure in the endless sea and the smell and the waves. I could walk for miles and miles along a coastline.

Tide pools teeming with animals are a huge bonus :D

British beeches are dreadful. I know what you mean about liking the concept of the beech. Often when I hear of a country/state that lives in-land I feel saddened that they can't go to the beech - even though I never actually like beeches here.

Well, where I am in the Midlands I'm about as far from the beach as you can get in any direction. Utterly land-locked. I mean, okay, that only means maybe a two-hour drive, at most three, to get to the coast, but for us Brits, as you know, that's a long way!

I get that, actually. I don't swim so playing in the ocean is always a bit of a nervous experience for me, but I love the vacation aspect of going to the beach. I just want to go away, have some sun, chill for a bit, no BS or responsibilities for a hot minute. Not Florida though - too damn hot down there!
